Want to be forever cemented as the coolest aunt/uncle/mom/dad/friend to a teenager? Get them a turntable. Then save everyone’s sanity with a pair of headphones. Bonus points for including a classic album, like The Beatles’ Abbey Road.

November 21, 2011 at 11:40 amVery cool! I’m digging those headphones, too — and UO is offering free shipping (no minimum order) right now!
(PS — the headphones link isn’t working for me, it is also going to the Abbey Road album)

November 21, 2011 at 12:09 pmwow, you do not have teenagers in your life, do you? Every single one of mine wants an ipod touch or an ipad and would have no idea how to work a turntable, & wouldn’t want to waste time with a cd either :)
Now, old people in your life? This is perfect!

November 21, 2011 at 12:15 pmI agree. I can’t see anyone on my list wanting this – or even understanding what it is (teens/kids). With alomost all music being available digitally and easily saved on a computer, I would think all the albums would just cause clutter. Plus, isn’t the sound quality horrible? Seems like more of a hipster gift.

November 21, 2011 at 12:24 pmVinyl is making a comeback for sure. Most kids are becoming more aware of the technology. I work at a music store, so I’m around teenagers all the time. As for sound quality, what the ear finds pleasing is subjective. Pops and hisses can be preferred to digital purity.

November 21, 2011 at 12:28 pmI agree with Sarah that most wouldn’t want a CD these days. Vinyl is different though, and would still be appreciated. It’s a blanket statement to say that all teenagers would like something (just like it would be to say that all men or all women would like something), but there are plenty of teens that would love it.

November 25, 2011 at 12:31 amI agree :) the kids I actually like in my family love my uncle’s turntable and his awesome collection of albums, including Abby Road and, a favorite of mine, Abba.

November 21, 2011 at 4:40 pmI’m 15 and I have one of these on my Christmas list! I have a collection of vinyls including some by the Beatles. :)And cds are completely different.

November 21, 2011 at 1:02 pmThis is a great idea, and trust me, many many teens would love this. Vinyl is back! This is the perfect starter turntable (I own a similiar Crosley model)– the sound is great, it’s very portable and it has a USB hookup.

November 21, 2011 at 1:12 pmI don’t know, my kids, 14 & 10, would think this is very cool! Of course I have hip, design-savvy kids ;-)

November 21, 2011 at 1:15 pmTurntables are not just for hipsters! And music *does* sound better from a record than any digital version. See explanation here: http://electronics.howstuffworks.com/question487.htm
There’s something so wonderful about the act of listening to a record – sliding it out of its sleeve, opening the turntable, placing the needle just so… And the music sounds so much more “real.” There is such a lovely depth to it that you just don’t get with digital music!

November 21, 2011 at 1:30 pmI love the way vinyl sounds vs digital music — something very pure about it! I’ve thought about getting my younger sister a turntable. She appreciates this kind of stuff.

November 21, 2011 at 1:58 pmGreat gift idea! I’m glad I grew up with a turntable and that my husband shares my love for records. I just wish he’d learn to use the headphones I got him when he listens to what I deem ‘questionable’ hehe :)

November 21, 2011 at 2:44 pmI am 26yo and asked Santa for a record player this year: the Ion iProfile (to be exact). Love it because it plays records, but will also allow me to transfer my mom’s records into digital format for my iphone/ipad.

November 21, 2011 at 4:01 pmI’m 18 years old and I would love anybody who gifted these to me :) What great taste you have!

November 21, 2011 at 7:23 pmI bought my husband one of those crosley suitcase record players about 10 years ago! It’s our travel record player, so we can play records in the hotel room, etc.! It’s still going strong and has held up well! Did you see that cosley is now selling a more 70’s version – in red+black plastic. It’s so cute!

November 21, 2011 at 8:32 pmI totally bought Urban Outfitters Turquoise colored turn table 2 years ago for my xmas gift to myself. LOVE IT!!! I love playing Ella Fitzgerald this time of year when guests are over. Can’t beat the sound!
