We’ve come to the last look in this edition of Making it Yours. True to the spirit of the series, you see a few pieces showing up again from previous looks. The lamp and vases were both in the first design, and now they’re being used again for this home office/library. In fact, the blue chair previously shown would look great in here as well.
I feel like this is the most traditional pairing of the rug with furniture, but there’s still a sense of fun. That portrait certainly helps, eh? I know it’s weird, but I love it. In fact, it will soon be winging its way to my house because as I put together the rest of the design, I couldn’t bear the thought of someone else buying it! I thought about replacing it with a more traditional portrait, but Hipster Jesus stays in the picture.
We’ve seen the same traditional rug in three different designs now. This library/home office space, a living room with a bit of pink, and another living room with a cool color palette. It was an interesting creative exercise for me, since I wouldn’t normally choose such a formal rug, and I hope you enjoyed seeing how it could be updated to work with a more modern style. Which was your favorite from this edition?

May 9, 2013 at 8:12 pmHipster Jesus made me smile. I went to a Catholic girls’ school and there was a particular painting in one of the classrooms that was known as ‘Hot Jesus’.

May 9, 2013 at 9:50 pmI don’t know about you…but that painting looks mysteriously like one Brad Pitt… possibly from his “Thelma and Louise” days…or maybe even now that his hair is longer. Inevitable.

May 12, 2013 at 12:12 pmFunny, I thought of Brad before I thought it looked like Jesus.
I saw “Legends of the Fall” just last night so I agree with Lesley about the Brad-ness but I think that movie most likely would have been the inspiration IF Brad Pitt had inspired the artist. He was pretty clean cut in T&L. In fact, it’s totaly approriate and possible since he IS wearing a Henley-type shirt.

May 12, 2013 at 11:12 pmThis was painted in the late ’60s or early ’70s, so it isn’t Brad.
I have another portrait from this artist that I swear is a dead ringer for Bridget Fonda, but both she and Brad were in grade school when these were painted. All I can figure is Wisconsin must have been full of great looking people way back when!
