I think the Freida lamp would look great with the steps wool hooked rug, don’t you?
When I first saw the rug, I couldn’t decide if I liked it or not. I mentioned it on twitter and facebook, and the responses were pretty divided (with references to both Missoni and the Golden Girls). After thinking about it for a bit though, I’ve decided that I quite like it! Finding the lamp to go with the rug really helps pull the two together with a little style, albeit it a granny chic style.
What do you think? Love it or hate it?

January 3, 2010 at 9:08 pmi like it to…a little stepped up ‘vintage’? feel?

January 3, 2010 at 9:11 pmI quite love it… and I don’t really see granny chic at all… I see chic, but more like preppy Springtime chic!
Making it Lovely
January 3, 2010 at 9:12 pmI think the rug makes me think ‘granny’ because I think of cozy knit afghans.

January 3, 2010 at 9:11 pmI like it, but we both know my taste runs toward the geriatric.

January 3, 2010 at 9:11 pmOooh, I dig that lamp! Very lovely.

January 3, 2010 at 9:12 pmI’m a fan…probably because it does look like Missoni
Heather Bourgeois
January 3, 2010 at 9:13 pmI love the lamp but I think it would go better with the rug if the base was white, it would def. be more updated and chic and less granny. The color is too mustard for the rug.
Mischala J
January 5, 2010 at 8:02 amI agree with the lamp colour needing a lift…I’d go with any of the red/torquoise/white shades in the rug to add a contemporary zing to the look!

January 3, 2010 at 9:13 pmI am not a fan of the rug, but I LOVE that lamp!!
Aimee
January 3, 2010 at 9:19 pmThe rug does remind me of an afgan, but not in a bad way. It’s more really quiet fun if you ask me. :) The lamp has a great shape, is that the color you would do? Or does it come in a color that would be in the rug?

January 3, 2010 at 9:43 pmTotally love the lamp, I think the rug is great, as long as it has something other than a dog on top to tone down the zig zag.
Your Mother
January 3, 2010 at 10:01 pmLove the rug and the lamp, but that is the funniest looking dog (the coloring of it) that I have ever seen. The head looks like it doesn’t match the body. Don’t get me wrong, love dogs but that one looks funky!

January 3, 2010 at 11:03 pmlove the lamp! definitely updates the rug.

January 3, 2010 at 11:04 pmI love them both together and I love accenting the mustard from the rug in the lamp; I just wish the rug was zigzag instead of steps. I think I’d have a hard time not trying to follow the step pattern across the room…and end up running into a chair!
Lauren @thelittlethingswedo
January 3, 2010 at 11:10 pmi love both of these items…although i’m maybe a bit biased because i love me some granny chic :).

January 3, 2010 at 11:12 pmI can see where you’d get the “granny afghan look” but I think this rug looks really nice. The colors are totally you and I’m pretty sure you could make it work. :)

January 4, 2010 at 12:54 amI love the pairing. I think the rug does give off the ‘granny’ and ‘afghan’ vibe but in a very modern way. The colours are gorgeous together.

January 4, 2010 at 3:48 amLove the rug and the retro feel of the lamp, there’s nothing wrong with a bit of Granny Chic!

January 4, 2010 at 4:08 amThat rug does not scream Golden Girls. It’s much to hip to have any link to anything granny. The colors are fantastic…so you!

January 4, 2010 at 4:55 amDidn’t think I would like it, but really, I do. The colors make it look modern, not granny…

January 4, 2010 at 5:08 amIt’s very different, but I like it. If it weren’t for the lamp though, the rug would not work for me.
Alicia
January 4, 2010 at 5:12 amThe lamp is great – and the German Shorthaired Pointer is even greater! But I’m not a fan of the rug.
Danielle
January 4, 2010 at 6:19 amSee, now I think I like the rug and lamp. They go very well and both give off a very nice vintage flair. I even think a bit of contrast, like a chocolate brown, would go well with it!

January 4, 2010 at 6:49 amI like the rug, but it’s definitely a “I’d like it in someone else’s home but not mine” kind of way.
I’m not really keen on the lamp.

January 4, 2010 at 7:40 amI don’t like either one. The lamp is boring and the rug has to much going on.

January 4, 2010 at 8:55 amI really like the rug, its like a great chevron afgan! and i can see it in your house!
i do agree with the above, that a white lamp shade would look nice. the shape of the lamp is too cool.
Helen
January 4, 2010 at 9:29 amLOVE it. It really is so Missoni.
Hilary
January 4, 2010 at 9:56 amI like both the lamp and the rug. I think the rug can go lots of ways, though- depending on the furniture and wall color. I could see the rug adding some funk to a room that has a lot of clean lines, or giving a vintage feel to plain room.
I think it would look nice in your office.

January 4, 2010 at 4:33 pmI love the vintage modern feel of both. Are you planning on keeping the walls light pink? If so, how do you feel about the purchasing the lamp in white? Just a thought. I do love the mustard color but think the combo of the two would look better with a different wall color.

January 4, 2010 at 6:11 pmI SOOO consider my style granny chic (usually more quirky than these items) but I love them! And I think they’ll go fab together. Throw in a slightly rustic/kitschy piece of wall art and you’ve got a look lady!

January 4, 2010 at 6:18 pmLove them both…. I don’t think the chevrons look too granny in the right context.

January 4, 2010 at 7:17 pmI like the rug. It’s in keeping with something I suspect you like: bargello needlepoint pillows. It also seems thematically aligned with your Weinrib rug.

January 4, 2010 at 10:20 pmI love the rug, I’m definitely in the Missoni camp, not the granny one. I’m thinking of it for myself, in fact, although I’m having a hard time convincing my husband that we need a rug in the living room on top of the hardwood floors. Anyway, I’m not too thrilled with the lamp though. It’s, well, squat. And the color is blah, in my opinion, but then I don’t like those shades of gold.
Kimbydee
January 4, 2010 at 11:28 pmLove the two together. LOVE the colors in the rug, lamp is perfect with it…
I would NOT love the rug in brown-orange-gold combo which brings back visions of the only afghan my family ever owned. Hated the colors in it, always wondered who picked that awful combination of colors. ;o)

January 5, 2010 at 1:07 amI love it! My husband has his parents first living room set, it is a vintage yellow sofa and chairs, I love it and am going to use it and this rug would look AMAZING…so thanks for the inspiration!!! I like the lamp as well.

January 5, 2010 at 10:25 amLove the multi-colored chevron rug, after seeing the other rugs in your home, it would be a good fit. Though I could also see a different retro/ vintage pattern in your office to avoid a “theme” type situation based off of the rug in your living room.
Lindsay @ Likely Design
January 5, 2010 at 12:30 pmI’ve always seen that in order to pull off a look like ‘Granny Chic’ you need to balance it with something on the opposite side of the style scale – like with more modern or contemporary pieces. Which I’m sure you’ll do.
I love them both, and I think that it would totally work in your office! ;)

January 5, 2010 at 10:55 pmTOTALLY diggin the rug. Definitely a Missoni vibe (which I happen to be very fond of). I think the colors and pattern will really help energize your work space! The lamp is cute. Don’t LOVE it but don’t have anything against it either.

January 6, 2010 at 11:50 amHello fellow Chicagoan! Just found your blog and I’m in love. The rug seems very you to be honest! Not that I know you… but based on what I’ve seen from your charming home. I think it’s great and want one for myself! But why are rugs SO expensive?!?! For now I have to stick to IKEA.

January 8, 2010 at 1:54 amHow cute would Eleanor look on that rug? I’d never have thought of putting that lamp with the rug but it’s a great choice. The diagonals of the two pieces work together and the biege stops the rug from getting too pretty pretty.
