Oh my! There are (at least) 4 stray kittens living under our front porch. How did I not notice them until today? I walked out to check the mail and I saw the little cuties playing by our stairs. I walked down to see them, and they all scuttled back under our porch.
I’m waiting to hear back from my step-mom because she works for a vet and she’ll know what to do. I put a bowl of water out there, but I don’t think I should feed them (not milk, I know). Poor kitties! They are SOOOOO cute.

June 5, 2007 at 3:00 pmMy $.02….I say feed them cause 1 – they’re probably starving, and 2 – they will gain your trust and you can capture them easier. And what a cutie in that pic!!!

June 5, 2007 at 8:11 pmMy instructions: don’t feed, don’t touch, call animal control. It seems so harsh. :(

June 6, 2007 at 4:50 pmHere they’d be killed because they’re feral and humane society is overloaded with cats. If they weren’t so timid, they could be adopted. But, I am the cat lady so I’m all for saving them.

June 7, 2007 at 2:15 pmIf you’re intention is to hopefully find them homes you’ll have to get your hands on them soon so they start to trust people. In a few weeks there will be no getting close to them because they’ll take off whenever you get close. Again this is if you want to find homes for them, you can try putting food out. I can’t tell how old they are from the picture but they look old enough to have some solid food. My guess is they’ll devour it. I question whether mom is still aroung anf you just haven’t seen her yet. If she does come around I suggest sett a trap and catching her so you can get her spayed. I loved cats as much as the next person but the last thing we need is more stray cats.

June 11, 2007 at 2:50 pmIf possible you should trap them with a humane trap. Maybe a local vet or humane society could lend you one. If they can’t be tamed and adopted at least have them spayed and neutered. Hope it works and they can be saved. Trapping the mom would be great so it doesn’t keep happening.
Thanks

June 21, 2007 at 10:08 amnot born in a domestic environment, i think they become feral pretty quickly. sadly, they probably will never make a good pet. :(
and they’re SO cute

July 7, 2007 at 7:57 pmIt depends on how old they are – the younger they are the more quickly they adjust, four week old kittens within a matter of hours and older kittens may take a couple of weeks to be be fully socialized. The kitten in this picture is young enough to not be a lost cause. Most people unfortunately can’t be bothered.

July 20, 2007 at 11:38 amlol..seriously, can I have one?? we found a rat in our Logan Square apt. I figure a little tom and jerry thing would be good for them?
don’t call animal control though, they take them to scary places. I heard Feline Inc. would accept them. Paws Chicago has information too. I don’t know about Oak Park, but try and find a humane center.

August 29, 2011 at 11:14 pmOP Animal Control takes strays to the Animal Care Leage, a no-kill shelter in Oak Park. They’re good guys, helpful, compassionate. Worthy of your trust.
But move soon on this.
Good luck!

August 30, 2011 at 8:51 pmYou can bring them to Animal Care League. They are wonderful with finding homes for kittens, cats, dogs, etc.
