Crafty (& Handy) Nursery

Updating an IKEA Lamp

This is a super simple IKEA hack that took about 10 minutes this morning.

I wanted a light in the alcove in the nursery, but I was concerned about little fingers meddling and getting burned by a hot bulb. IKEA sells the TASSA NATT lamp for $5, and the main draw is that it’s tamper-proof and it doesn’t get hot. Great, except for the little frog/bugs on it.

Simple IKEA Hack

The cover comes off very easily though.

I just traced it onto prettier paper and recovered the lamp.

The new cover may not last as long (the original was vinyl), but it’s easy enough to switch out every so often.

We have a version (not the frog one!) of this lamp in our daughter’s room and it’s her favorite to turn on and off. That said, it once got left on for 24 hours. It wasn’t even warm when I found it and turned it off. Good job Ikea, but you made it so much better by getting rid of the frogs!

This is utterly brilliant! I think this gets me to a list of stuff to get there that’s finally long enough to justify making the 40 mile trek! Thanks!

The paper was from Paper Source a few years ago. It’s a semi-translucent vellum.

That looks much better! I wonder if a light colored wallpaper would work for a little more durability. Although they may be too thick of a paper to let light through.
