What an adorable series of photos. I’m curious how many you take to pick from each time?

I take between 50-100 each month (most are sequential shots, so the whole photo shoot doesn’t last more than a few minutes). From there I can usually narrow it down to about five that are really good, and then I pick the best one from those.

She’s getting so big! I love the pink Christmas tree. There is no way Clay would be cool with one of those in our house so I’ll have to live vicariously through your pics. Hope you had a great Christmas!

I have a question. First, why did you decide to take monthly photos for two whole years? I’ve been going up to two years for my son (who is 16 months) since I saw you’re going to two years, but I don’t see much difference now from month to month! Do you think you’ll go all the way up to two years for #2?

      December 29, 2010 at 4:07 pm

The changes are definitely not as pronounced in the second year from month to month, and that’s why I’m not going past two. I always figured I’d rather take too many than stop at one year and wish I had gone further, and two years seemed like a nice length of time. I do plan on doing a full two years for #2 as well, and then yearly after that for each.

Eleanor’s photos are always cute, but this month’s is really special, somehow. She’s growing into SUCH a beautiful little lady.

You might consider taking a shot on their “half-birthdays” up to about 6 years. I have been shocked at the changes in my niece Elena over the course of each six months when I flip back through my photos of her. She’s finally getting to the age (6 1/2) where she doesn’t change as much, but it’s still a shocker looking through snaps when she has shot up in height or her features have rearranged themselves to look older.

That’s a good idea to do the half-birthdays as well. I think I will.

My brother does a weekly video of my niece, on a Wednesday (the day she was born), and uploads it to Facebook. It’s not so organised as you, she’s always doing something different, but it’s so nice to look back and see how much she has changed. He just uploaded Week 60 today, and he said he doesn’t feel he can stop now! I joked about Week 2060, and he laughed and said that he didn’t think Molly would be letting him make videos and upload them by then – she’ll be 39!

This is a fabulous idea, and such a lovely keepsake. I’m sure it’s something that Eleanor will treasure when she’s old enough to appreciate it!

Happy New Year Nicole – looking forward to reading you into 2011!

There are so many nicknames for the name Eleanor (Ellie, Elle, Ella, Nell, Nelly…), but we call her Nora for short.

    Whoops! Almost forgot!

We continued this by photographing our kids at the front door on the first day of school every year. We started at preschool and went right through to almost high school (ha ha) Didn’t matter that we moved houses, it was great to see the changes year after year. Took one of each of them and one together.

We got the idea from an old Ladies Home Journal or Good Housekeeping mag from the 60s we found that had a girl and her dad in front of their front door every year. They continued until she was about 20 I believe.

What an adorable idea! I wish I had thought to do that . . . although we moved twice during my daughter’s first two years, so I couldn’t have had such a nice, consistent spot.

And, it may be odd to say, being that the picture is of your daughter, but I love your couch! (or what I can see of it)
