Wow. Um. This may be the dorkiest thing I’ve done yet.
I’ve created a 3D rendering of my living room (to scale), which I populated with furniture, animated, set to music, and uploaded to YouTube.
Enjoy:

November 6, 2007 at 4:58 amWhen the model tipped in the animation, I was expecting all of the furniture to come sliding out of the room. I have no idea what I was thinking. Ha!

November 6, 2007 at 6:59 amThat’s seriously one of the best things I’ve seen… I’m forwarding it to my cousin, an architecture major, who has shown me stuff like this that he made — but his were always super modern buildings or flaming swords or something… and yours is real and cute and more the thing I like!

November 6, 2007 at 8:52 amYou’re always so busy with work, home improvement projects, etc., when do you find the time to do these things?!?!?
I’m amazed at how industrious you are.

November 6, 2007 at 9:00 amYeah, I don’t think you can layout your furniture any other way. If you did my suggestion and flipped the couch, it (plus the end tables) would cover the entire expanse of the room. Not. Good. The middle space is more for a love or a couple of chairs, if anything.
How do you think the furniture was arranged in that room originally, before the advent of TV?

November 6, 2007 at 2:58 pmwow you got heaps of time on your hands huh?

November 6, 2007 at 4:31 pmLove it!
Expected to see June Cleaver come waltzing into the living room with a plate of cookies for Wally and the Beav. And I mean that in a good way!

November 6, 2007 at 5:07 pmput the tv in the corner where the red chair is, and angle the couch in the opposite corner?

November 7, 2007 at 9:14 amback to the t.v. arrrangement
do you have to have both of the
doorways on either side of the t.v.??
could you get along with just the one
to the right of the tv and do away with the other?
thus creating a corner and hang the monster
plasma!

November 7, 2007 at 2:18 pmWe’ve decided to give the plasma TV back, so we’re keeping the furniture the way it is.

Making it Lovely
December 11, 2007 at 10:18 pmYep, that was done in Google SketchUp. I have no idea how I found the time to learn the program and make that little rendering. It took waaaaay too long!

February 13, 2009 at 5:45 amHa! As your room tipped up to show the floorplan, I just expected all the furniture to fall to the bottom of the screen! Very clever indeed.
