Making it Yours (MIY) is all about using the furniture you have in new ways and taking pieces with you throughout your life. In this edition of MIY, our fictional homeowner has moved from a home with a breakfast nook and room for four Real Good Chairs to a new home where the chairs will have to be split up. We’ve already seen one of the chairs in a home office, and another in a modern, graphic bedroom. Now we’ll see the third chair in a vintagey bathroom.
First off, can i just say that I would LOVE to have a bathroom big enough to fit a chair? Yep, that would be nice. But our fictional homeowner here has lucked out and has the room, as well as a lovely clawfoot tub and hexagon tiles. The Lombard ceiling fixture fits in well with the tub and tile, and the green goes nicely with the color of the chair. The bath mat and wall color further link the colors, without exactly matching, and Supernova Modern Vases by j. mendicino are a cute touch. The shower curtain picks up on the hex tile, but in a more feminine way while still keeping the room from getting too cloying and colorful.
Next up, we’ll see the fourth and final chair in the home’s entryway.

January 8, 2009 at 2:40 pmLovely!
Though I gotta say: Much as I’d love a washroom large enough to fit a chair, I can’t figure out what I’d do with a chair in a washroom. I mean, there’s already a place to sit. ;)
Maybe you could sit on the chair to apply lotion or something? I guess I’m boring. :D

What program do you use to make your mood boards?

January 8, 2009 at 2:57 pmI’ve been coveting that shower curtain for a while. It’s so gorgeous in this scheme you’ve created. I love black, white, and aqua together – beautiful!

January 8, 2009 at 3:29 pmthis is my favorite room so far. my bathroom is barely big enough to fit me in it let alone a chair. perhaps some day.

January 8, 2009 at 3:41 pmLove the name of the paint! (Oh Martha, your minions have been smart and crafty with that one.) I could see the chair serving the purpose as a rest stop –being too tired to towel off and instead sitting in it and drip-drying (it does have well placed perforations)! :)

January 8, 2009 at 3:47 pmI love these colors. The print on the shower curtain is so nice with the tiles. What color is that paint? Is it a pale green?

January 8, 2009 at 3:49 pmAwesome color scheme, that and the tiles remind me of my tiny studio bathroom in Miami Beach. Good times long gone!

January 8, 2009 at 3:56 pmThis is my favorite of the three reincarnations. I love the color scheme. I can’t wait to see what you do with the entryway.

January 8, 2009 at 4:25 pmLove it Nicole! The paint color you chose for this bathroom is the color I chose for our newly renovated laundry room. I absolutely LOVE it!! Great job, as always!

January 8, 2009 at 6:10 pmMy parents had hexagonal floor tiles in the bathroom when I was growing up! Thanks for the memories :)
When I was 17, they extended the house, and doubled the length of the bathroom (2m X 4m)… I’m not sure that a chair would fit, however. Something to keep in mind when I extend one day :D

January 8, 2009 at 6:44 pmThe chair is for a vanity! I have a small vanity in my boys’ pink bathroom (vintage pink fixtures, in case you’re wondering) and I have been looking for a petite chair that was bathroom friendly forever. I’m not sure this one will fit, but I’ll have to check it out.

January 8, 2009 at 7:29 pmI like everything on the inspiration board but not really loving the Real Good Chair. For some reason I’m not enamored with Blu Dot. I get the concept behind their designs but their product looks so flimsy and cheap I’d expect Ikea or Target pricing but that’s not the case. I’d certainly layout a chunk of cash on a well-designed item, but I also want it last.

January 8, 2009 at 8:38 pmHey Condo Blues, this is a pretty cheap chair. It’s only $130 tops, and they have this chair on the Target site for $90. That’s pretty good for a chair!
In any event, the bathroom is really nice. I think my fave so far has been the office, but I’ll reserve judgment til I see the last one!

January 8, 2009 at 10:16 pmI just painted our bathroom this color on Sunday & it is an absolutely beautiful shade of blue-green!! It’s paired with white subway tile (wall) & black & white hexagon tile (floor). We’re still on the hunt for a shower curtain. Yours is well… lovely :)

January 9, 2009 at 10:02 amI’ve been reading your blog for a while now and I love it! Never commented but I thought you’d like to see your blog got a little mention in yesterday’s Home section of the Post (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/01/07/AR2009010701078_pf.html). Congrats and I can’t wait to see where you take the chair next!

January 9, 2009 at 10:18 amIt looks fantastic! Makes me wish I was living in a real house, not an apartment. I’m in love with that tub =) There’s nothing better in the world than a fabulous bubble bath in a tub like that. I love the color and look of the chair, but am afraid I’d sit in it while wet or just after I’ve put body cream on and slide right out of it haha. Still love the look though =)

January 9, 2009 at 11:14 amI would LOVE to have a bathroom big enough for a chair! What a good find with the bathmat from PB Teen. I never take the time to really look through there, but you’ve proven that it’s worth perusing!

January 9, 2009 at 11:26 amThis is a beautiful setup. I really love the water green blues you use in the bathroom to go with the chair, which is also a lovely shade.
The blog is looking amazing as well. I see you used hex tiles on the sides!

You know, we’ve not touched our first floor bathroom yet, and I’m REALLY liking this look. Maybe I’ll use it in the house? Hmmm…

January 11, 2009 at 11:08 amOur master bath is painted the same color. I love it! So calming in the hectic mornings. It’s almost a very light Tiffany blue on our walls. Not too 50s aqua like I thought it might be. I wish we had room for a chair!

January 12, 2009 at 8:26 amThis is so gorge. Love it!!! You’re fun.

January 14, 2009 at 3:40 pmI absolutely love the shower curtain; it’s too bad they are sold out. Are there any other shower curtains that would go well in this schema?
