I put together my May style post a bit early, frankly because I could use the distraction. No, the baby has not arrived yet. Looks like I’ll be going from overdue to truly post-term. I’m scheduled to be induced tomorrow morning.
So for now… fashion! Glorious frivolity!
I’m eager to wear normal clothes again, though I’m sure it will take me a while to get back to my pre-pregnancy size. Plus I know babies do lovely things like spit-up, so I’m trying to be practical and choose easy wash and wear clothing. A comfy stretchy skirt and a ruffled henley should fit the bill. And how awesome would Moop’s Fraulein Tote be as a diaper bag? I think it would work exceedingly well.
I saw the red t-strap shoes in the Urban Outfitters catalog about a month ago and I’ve been pining for them ever since. They’re pretty much perfect— the low heel looks like a good height to add some style but still be a very walking-friendly shoe. A kicky striped bangle would pick up the red nicely, and gold hoop earrings would be a nice touch too.
OK, that was fun. Didn’t really take my mind off things since I’m basing my wardrobe choices around my upcoming new lifestyle as a mom (!), but it was fun nonetheless. Now I’m off to worry about tomorrow…

April 27, 2009 at 6:30 amI, too, have been checking in for baby news. You will do fine! My daughter had to be induced as well (for different reasons) & it really wasn’t bad. And even if it had been,it would have been worth it! You are on the verge of meeting your baby–how exciting!

April 27, 2009 at 6:57 amWhat a great outfit, Nicole. That is perfect as a nice, but casual new Mom outfit. I may have to head over to Old Navy later, love that skirt. Good Luck tomorrow, keep us posted.

April 27, 2009 at 8:23 amI was induced with my second son. I was so-o sick of being pregnant and my dr. allowed me to be induced on my due date, and I jumped at the chance. It was actually really nice, compared to being startled awake at midnight with my first one when my water broke. When you’re induced everyone’s prepared. Soon this will all be a distant memory and you’ll be lovin’ having a darling child, this time a someONE you can make lovely! :-) Best wishes. I’ll be thinking of you tomorrow.

April 27, 2009 at 8:24 amI love that bangle!

April 27, 2009 at 9:11 amBest of luck to you! The porch looks great, and the outfit would be perfect post baby (spit up and everything)…just get the Dreft spray (it does wonders). Comfy t-shirt clothes are perfect!

April 27, 2009 at 9:13 amHi Nichole!
I am carrying my Moop Organic Market bag today. I bought it via Supermarkethq… http://supermarkethq.com/product/the-organic-market-bag
I absolutely love the bag you posted and think it would make a PERFECT diaper bag! :)

April 27, 2009 at 9:27 amThanks for the updates – we are all so excited to hear the good news!
You will do just fine tomorrow. Just remember, your body knows what to do. Not knowing how it will all play out is truly the hardest part of delivery.
Hugs from MN.

April 27, 2009 at 9:40 amGood luck with tomorrow! It’s funny, now that you are scheduled to be induced and the stress of “when” is over…I bet you go into labor naturally sometime today. It’s happened to me twice! I’ll be thinking about you.

April 27, 2009 at 9:54 amI am so happy for you… and the outfit looks great you will certainly be styling the new mom look!

April 27, 2009 at 10:06 amI love the red, white and blue combo – sounds corny when you say the colors out loud, but it’s not like you’re dressing for the 4th of July!! :) And yes, a button down neck henley will be perfect for nursing – and the white is good for spit up, ha! Welcome to the wonderful world of motherhood, Nicole!

April 27, 2009 at 10:09 amI love your blog and I’ve been checking constantly to see if you’ve had the baby yet. Good Luck tomorrow! I’m sure it will be amazing!!!

April 27, 2009 at 10:12 amOH and one more thing…yesterday my boyfriend came home with a Star Wars “snow walker” and I had NO CLUE where this thing was going to go…I just by chance happened to look at your link to Apartment Therapy and was shocked to see the snow walker! April 27, 2009 at 10:39 amDon’t worry – I was induced too. The bottom line is by tomorrow you’ll have your lovely little girl in your arms, so focus on that! Also, don’t know if you’re planning to nurse, but if so, not sure that top will work :) These tanks are great for the summer http://www.glamourmom.com/.
Good luck tomorrow!

April 27, 2009 at 10:46 amGood luck. I was induced too and it wasn’t so bad. Just try and eat some complex carbs. You’ll need it. congrats to all of you.

April 27, 2009 at 11:17 amTank up on water now, because they’ll want some nice plump veins for the IV. You’ll also get dehydrated quick with all the heavy breathing, and some hospitals restrict your water intake, letting you have only ice chips, so my advice for you is to drink now, while you can!
You might feel alone while you’re going through it, but just remember that millions of women give birth each year, a majority of them in huts and hovels without the benefit of modern medicine to smooth the way. You can do it!

April 27, 2009 at 11:40 amI bought two of those stretchy skirts when I was pregnant after my friend bought a few and by the end I was wearing them every day (mine are in black and brown). I loved wearing them and even though they say you want to burn your maternity clothes by the end, I am actually sitting in one right now (and my little one is 18 mos old). Still love ’em. I’ll have to mosey on over and look at the new colors. good luck tomorrow. so exciting, yet so so so nerve racking. It’ll all come out great!
Travelingmama
April 27, 2009 at 11:40 amYeah! Baby time! You cannot believe how amazing it is to hold that little person in your arms for the first time. It is truly life altering and yet perfectly wonderful all in the same moment! I wish you a speedy labor and delivery and the sweetest times for you and your family! (Oh, and that fold down skirt would be perfect for postpartum- comfy but still cute!)

April 27, 2009 at 11:46 amHi! Every time I see a new post of yours in my google reader I cross my fingers that it’s announcing the little one ^_^
You must be so excited!!
Best wishes!

April 27, 2009 at 11:56 amGood luck tomorrow! It’s not that bad. I was induced with my son, lathough it still took the little bug 17 hours to evict. :)
jaime
April 27, 2009 at 12:04 pmoi! I hope everythin goes well with your induction. I planned a very busy day to keep my mind off of being over due (a date with the husband for thai food, a day out visiting the sugar houses in my county… and I swear it was the fresh maple syrup that helped things along!).
I have several of the fold over skirts from summers past and I LOVE them. So much in fact that sometimes I forget that I have a skirt on.
Again, good luck and I hope for a speedy, healthy delivery.
Kristen
April 27, 2009 at 12:09 pmThat outfit is super cute. I also wanted to wish you the best of luck tomorrow. I was 11 days past due and I asked to be induced. I guess our little ones just want(ed) to stay in their comfy wombs. Even though I was induced, my labor never really progressed. Twenty-four hours after I was admitted to the hospital, I had a c-section. It was wonderful. I had absolutely no pain and I finally got to see my beautiful daughter. It will be one of the best moments of your life!

April 27, 2009 at 12:17 pmMuch luck for a speedy and safe delivery – I cannot wait to see the new little one here!

April 27, 2009 at 12:26 pmWell done for making it to 42 weeks- WOW! I was induced a little after 41 weeks- my son was way toooo comfy in there. My doctor said it would have been 42-43 weeks if they didn’t induce..But you are lucky to have the 42 weeks- good for you and baby! You are a trooper….
Have a wonderful day today, Nicole, you and Brandon deserve it!
best,
Emily

April 27, 2009 at 12:31 pmIt seems that you have built such a nice and sweet home for your baby girl inside you that she doesn’t want to come out!!! I hope everything goes fine and you have an easy delivery. I’m sure you cannot wait to see your little girl’s face at last!! Congrats to you and Brandon. My very best wishes from Spain…

April 27, 2009 at 1:29 pmI wore Target and Old Navy stretchy clothes for 3 months after babies were born due to spit up and stretchy skin. But I wore glam slippers just to keep one part of me feeling pretty.
Can’t wait to hear the news… good luck with the birth, and Happy Birthday to your little one !
Lili
April 27, 2009 at 2:19 pmI have never been in your position Nicole, but maybe try do something to keep your mind off tomorrow and hoping you go into labor. The stress of the situation stops your body from going ahead I think. So maybe go shopping, or for a walk, or like others suggested, treating yourself to a pedicure.
That bangle is great!
Elizabeth
April 27, 2009 at 2:21 pmI can’t wait to hear what “lovely” name you choose. Early Congrats!!

April 27, 2009 at 2:29 pmi’m loving those shoes and that bangle! all great choices, i’d say!
good luck tomorrow!!! you’ll do great!

April 27, 2009 at 2:53 pmGood luck tomorrow!! Hope your induction “takes” & baby gets on the move. I don’t know the situation of your feet & ankles, but mine never swelled or got puffy until right after baby was born — all those IV fluids. So take a pair of flip-flops or open-back shoes, or you might have to leave the hospital in your slippers, like I did!
(Love those red shoes!!)

April 27, 2009 at 3:03 pmEverything will be fine.

April 27, 2009 at 3:08 pmI say take the opportunity to get busy with your hubby today…hey, it might even bring on labor! And if not, at least you get one last hurrah before parenthood. Good luck, breathe, let go, and enjoy your new sweet bundle….

April 27, 2009 at 5:31 pmThis is one of my fave style posts yet! I love the color combination!
I was induced with both of my babies, and it’s not so bad (of course, I have nothing to compare it to!). It’s not always the most preferred route but by tomorrow night, when you’re holding your sweet baby girl, you won’t care how she got here! :)
Good luck to you guys tomorrow!

April 27, 2009 at 6:24 pmCongrats Nicole! I’m being induced tomorrow morn at 7am too! Good Luck and your designs are amazing.

April 27, 2009 at 8:30 pmGood luck tomorrow, I have been following you since before the big announcement and it was so exciting, wishing you the best!
P.S. as a long-time baby sitter who knows from experience, you should avoid those earrings unless you want them ripped out

Good luck tomorrow! I cannot wait to “meet” your little one!

April 27, 2009 at 9:02 pmGOOD LUCK! I can’t wait. You will be stunned and sleep-deprived for a while, but you will totally get that it was worth it as you see the personality emerge.
BTW, don’t be horrified by the post-pregnancy body. I lost all my weight in two weeks, but still looked horribly misshapen! (If you get a c-section, you will be swollen for a while, too.) It slowly begins to look normal again, I swear.

April 27, 2009 at 9:08 pmFrom far away Brazil I wish you all the best for tomorrow. Soon you’re gonna have your bebay in your arms and live will never be the same anymore. Just better! Good Luck!

April 27, 2009 at 9:11 pmDelurking from down state IL to wish you the best on your induction (been there twice) and to say that the Old Navy skirt is fabulously comfortable! I have already bought two and plan to buy a couple more. They are my new summer go-to piece. Wish they had been around for my last post-baby tummy! Blessings to you and your coming little one!

April 27, 2009 at 9:14 pmhey little momma…ive been in your situation..and i had to be induced with an overdue baby boy..and like some other poster said..its not that bad…i did want to have my “water break” but i soon realized after a bit of crying that no matter how he actually got here…HE WAS HERE!! and i loved and still love my baby boy :) he’s 5 now!
and all the posters saying..”relax..take a chill pill…get a pedicure” lol its really laughable…they are only saying it because they’ve been were you are..and they NOW know that chilling would’ve been the better option..but while youa re actually going through it…NOT CHILLING IS ALL YOU CAN DO! …lol..
yeah so dont chill out…keep thinking how awesome its going to be to hold your baby girl..keep pacing..and wondering exactly when she will be here..because by the time she actually graces you with her little prissy presence…you will be totally exhausted and wished you’d done alll the tings everyone has said!!! lol..
she will be awesome..and there isnt a doubt you guys will be great parents…congrats again..and have a sleepless night :) she will be here before you know it…

When I had my son I felt guilt sending him to the nursery so I kept him in my room. I learned now that you should take advantage of the chance to sleep don’t feel guilty! Rest while you can…

April 28, 2009 at 9:20 amgood luck; hope all is going well. that outfit is beautiful but as the mom of 2 with #3 coming soon, those earrings look very very graspable by baby fingers. I’ve been wearing studs only for the past 4 years after some painful earring grabs…
best wishes for an easy delivery and a healthy mom and baby.
