That’s me and my little sister, Ashley, circa 1990.
My Uncle Ray used to be a professional photographer, but this was just a quick snap that he got of us on the back porch of his old Chicago-style bungalow. He has since moved (many years ago now), but the photo still hangs in his dining room. Poster-sized.
It’s one of my favorite photos ever.
p.s. My Uncle Ray is the reason we chose Ray for August’s middle name.

June 14, 2011 at 10:16 amI’m glad you clarified that because up until this point I thought you chose Ray after Ray Eames, hehe.

June 15, 2011 at 1:48 pmGah. That would be four years after I graduated college. I think. I need to take my geritol and ginko biloba before I can be sure.

June 14, 2011 at 11:29 amLOVE IT! This is fantastic. I am currently on a mission to mix in hilarious family photos like this with my other playful artwork, and this is big inspiration! Who says family photos have to be snapshots and boooorrring?! :D

June 14, 2011 at 12:13 pmdo you know a good place to get photos – not negatives, but actual photos – blown up to poster size? I love this idea!!

June 15, 2011 at 12:56 pmIf you can scan them in hi-res, Adorama.com has a great AdoramaPix service and it’s relatively inexpensive for large photo prints! They’ll ship anywhere or you can pick up if you’re in NYC at their 18th Street store in Manhattan. They also occasionally run specials so I got a 20″x30″ print last week for $13!! Craziness.

June 15, 2011 at 2:41 amGreat photo. I love old family photos! There’s a great one of my mum holding me as a baby, people think it is a photo of me holding my youngest brother. It goes to show our family resemblance.
