My latest post for My Colortopia was all about my kitchen. It has been yellow for five years, and I’m thinking it’s about time for a change. I mean, I don’t stand on the countertops and take weird photos for nothing!
The room does look ages better than it did when we first moved in; I’ll give it that. Behold the before shot.
Right. So then Brandon and I redid the whole thing, and it looked like this.
And it still looks like that today, except with white trim. So now that I have new fabric in mind for the curtains, I’m trying to choose a new wall color.
I (like you, I’m guessing) love before and after shots. Over at My Colortopia, there’s a new Show Your Colors section featuring tons of them from their readers. I like seeing what real people have done to their homes (and imagining what I would do if I was the person that lived there).
If you have any painting projects that you’re proud of, you can share your before and after photos too. You can get a feel for how it works with the widget in this post.
Now, as for my kitchen? I’m thinking green. But that could change tomorrow.
I have been sponsored by Glidden® brand paint to write this post but the thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.

September 26, 2012 at 2:11 pmI wish I could use Anna Bond’s lovely creations on every surface of my home. A nice chamomile would be a lovely paint choice – or maybe I’m digging a robin’s egg blue more? Best of luck!

September 26, 2012 at 2:21 pmLove green kitchens (said as I’m getting rid of one). I need your eye to pick a good gray for mine :)

September 26, 2012 at 2:22 pmI’ll come over and help pick a color! I love doing that sort of thing.

September 26, 2012 at 2:59 pmYou guys are cute. I’d like to be able to trade office and organization work to see my physician. Ah, the good old days of bartering.

September 26, 2012 at 2:25 pmCurrently in the process of painting our second bedroom (to become the office) charcoal. I’m absolutely covered in the stuff, but I’m loving how cozy it makes the space feel. And really clean, which is kind of strange considering that it’s grey.
I love what you’ve done with the kitchen already! Ahhh subway tile. How I love thee.

September 26, 2012 at 2:34 pmI love a good charcoal gray.

September 26, 2012 at 2:56 pmYour kitchen kinda looks green to me already. I’m sure it’s my computer screen and it’s a dark, mellow yellow, yes?
I think green would look great in there. Are you thinking 1960’s appliance avocado? Kermit? Subtle and pea-like to compliment the new curtains? (you’ll probably do a post on this later…in which case ignore me)
I love, love, love how the white cabinets just opened and brightened the room right up.

September 26, 2012 at 10:54 pmI’ll do a post with some options. I have to find some time to sew the curtains, and then I’ll see what looks like a good color then.

September 26, 2012 at 3:12 pmWhat about a pale turquoise? Not sure I’m a good one for color advice though, I picked a light blue-gray for my combined kitchen and dining space, and wasn’t thrilled with it at all in the end (too light), but after all the taping and edging, there’s no way I’m redoing it anytime soon!

September 26, 2012 at 3:14 pmI’m in the ‘colour choosing process’ at the mo, for my kitchen too … we haven’t done anything to it yet (except paint a blackboard wall which we all LOVE!). Its all cream, cream, cream, VERY boring. I think I’m going to go all white on the walls, the units are new and we won’t be able to change them for a long time, so they stay cream, and then on one big wall I’m going to go for a wild colour … I’m leaning towards mustard at the mo, but worried that it will make the cream units more yellowy? Would love some opinions/help … my other faves are teal, mossy green or rich plum …

September 26, 2012 at 10:55 pmYeah, I don’t know about mustard with cream, though I love it with pure white. Mossy green or plum sound wonderful though!

September 26, 2012 at 3:19 pmI wanted an apple green kitchen for the longest time. It wouldn’t work in our current space, so I’d be excited to live vicariously through you (even if you went with a different shade!).

September 26, 2012 at 3:19 pmYour After kitchen looks lovely! I love the counter tops. My kitchen looks exaclty like that (the Before I mean)! I am hoping to do a renovation soon. Did you DIY this?
Making it Lovely
September 26, 2012 at 10:56 pmYes, we did most of it ourselves. It was a crazy renovation to live through, but we’ve been really happy with our kitchen.

September 26, 2012 at 8:23 pmAbsolutely love the way you all redid your kitchen!! Looks gorgeous… I’d be sad to see the yellow go, it looks so great in that space!! I just posted before and after pictures of our hall bathroom … it’s so crazy to see where projects start and end! Sometimes, you really can’t even tell they are in the same space!!

September 26, 2012 at 10:54 pmWhere did you get your wooden double step in the after pic?

September 26, 2012 at 10:55 pmThat’s from IKEA! They sell them in a black painted version too.

September 27, 2012 at 5:47 pmLove the kitchen already, but I’m excited to see what you come up with with that fabric in mind. I’m thinking about using that same fabric in my office…which is still waiting to be painted. I’m trying to decide between a pale aqua and a corally pink. We will see…
Making it Lovely
September 29, 2012 at 3:14 amI’ve been considering a pale aqua and a corally pink too.

September 28, 2012 at 12:24 ami have white cabinets as well. I painted my kitchen walls an avocado green. it really pops out against the white of the cabinets. seems like it would go well with the dark counter tops too.

September 28, 2012 at 11:13 pmAre you still considering painting the kitchen floor at some point?
Making it Lovely
September 29, 2012 at 3:15 amI don’t know. I’m hesitant! Our wood floors are in great shape throughout the rest of the first floor, but they’re not so nice in the kitchen. I love the look of painted wood flooring in other people’s homes, but I can’t decide if I want to do it in ours.

September 28, 2012 at 11:14 pmAn absolute amazing job doing this kitchen! I have dreams of accomplishing such a drastic change in the kitchen!
