The Design Blogger Look

Nicole, Wearing her Fox SweaterI’m in Seattle right now on a quick business trip, so I’m popping in with a short post today.

I taught a class online for Alt Summit last night from my hotel room, all about what to wear to the event. I’m predicting that animal sweaters, like my foxy find, will be big.

I’m sure we’ll also see a lot of what I affectionately referred to as “the design blogger look.” Stripes, polka dots, and chambray, plus top knots and braids. (Glasses too, with bonus points if they actually have a prescription!)

What to Wear to Alt Summit: Design Blogger Style

I’d be a total cliché if only I owned a chambray button-down and knew how to do my hair! Sources for everything are on my “What to Wear to Alt Summit” Pinterest board.

* The photo of me in my fox sweater is by Helen, of Handmaidtales. She was at AB Chao’s Chicago design camp, where I stopped in for lunch and answered questions as a special guest. It was fun!

(I just had a giggle picturing all of you at the ALT Summit dressed alike.) All these choices are pretty darn cute…I need to get moving on the polka dot/stripe trend before it is a thing of the past. I have no pattern in my wardrobe whatsoever.

I own 80% of these items. LOL and I’ve perfected the red lip (Mac Ruby Woo is amazing). I also lucked up and got that Gap dress on clearance a few weeks ago!

I keep hearing that about Ruby Woo! I don’t know why I haven’t tried it yet.

Ha, I just bought a chambray shirt from Old Navy and I think I’ve perfected the red lip, too. I just have to figure out the Clue party now!

Oh this made me laugh! I’m all about top knots and stripes and just got a denim shirt in the mail yesterday. Is this because I am a pseudo-design blogger?? The top knot is usually because my hair hasn’t been washed for three days and it dirty and stripes just seem an easy way to be chic-ish without having to think too hard about it.

Saw the CUTEST top at Anthro this morning that was navy and white stripes and polka dots combined. Design blogger uniform, anyone?

I have that stripe/color block dress. It’s kind of boxy and shapeless, so I wrap a belt around myself and call it a day.

I’m confused about this… I work in the design field with a lot of other designers and there is so much variety to our styles.

Are all the summit attendees trying to out-cute each other in the same style? Is this tongue-in-cheek? I don’t mean to sound snarky, but I just don’t get it?

One of the things I enjoy about the variety of blogs I follow (including this one!) is that many of the bloggers have a unique style that shines through in many aspects of their life – clothes, decor, food, etc.

It’s tongue-in-cheek. While there will be a lot of stripes and chambray at the conference, there will be a lot of variety too.

Another reason you’ll see these looks a lot is simply because they ar readily available in every store. Seriously, I can’t walk into a clothing store without stripes and Poona dots. I get it. Cute post. Cute outfit too!

I am a total cliche, hah! But I always liked stripes, polka dots and Chambray, but I have succumbed to the Heidi braids, red lipstick and now I must add a ‘Foxy’ sweater. You looked adorbs;)

I have not purchased a fox (or owl) sweater yet … but I do have polka dot shoes that I sometimes wear with a striped long sleeve tee. Such a cliche’
Although I live in LA and everyone is constantly trying to out-cute each other and the whole thing is a big cliche too. Oh well ! It’s all still very entertaining :-)

I’d love to travel to another state for a business trip! That sounds awesome! :)

I love the collection, very cute and stylish. That is one thing I day dream of for the New Year, getting a new wardrobe! My clothes are so dull! I need to brighten my closet up by going shopping for new outfits and such! I want to make 2013 more shiner and bright as possible! Therefore, I won’t have any room for dark and gloomy clouds! ;)

This was the most fun I’ve had in an Alt class, which is saying a lot because they’re always really interesting and fun! I loved all your suggestions. While I can’t pull of twee or edgy, your talk and visuals have inspired me to kick it up a notch. While I’m excited about all the learning at Alt, I’m equally excited about the fashion!

I really enjoyed your class on Monday night and took a lot away from it. I’m totally looking forward to the weekend for some shopping. : ) I loved your advice of “channeling your inner 5 year old.” Too funny! : )

This post has made me nervous! Probably exactly what I needed though to get myself cracking on planning for Alt Summit :)

I have no idea what to wear to the Clue party and everything in Sydney at the moment is summer dresses which won’t be appropriate for the cold weather in SLC.
