Let’s check in on our imaginary friend, Maxwell, shall we? We’re following along in this edition of Making it Yours as he incorporates the SAIC Together Pendant Light from CB2 in several spaces. It started out in his dining room before being swapped out for a chandelier and moved to his bedroom, and now we’ll see it in his new living room.
Maxwell was renting his last apartment, so after getting permission to switch the lighting fixtures, he kept the old ones in a storage space that came with his unit. When it was time to move, he just replaced them and was able to take his nicer lights with him to a new apartment where he’ll do the same thing. (Brandon and I have done this, and we have friends that have done it too. Not all landlords are cool with it, but lots are!)
The old place was feeling kind of small and Maxwell has been killing it at work, so he got a nice promotion with a good solid pay raise. He’s still living solo, having a great time and he’s now in a new construction apartment building with huge windows that flood the space with light. To cozy up the room he went with a dark, comfy couch (our couch!) and a faux cowhide rug. The red lounge chair has a lot of impact due to both its shape and color, and it modernizes the boho curtains that used to hang in Maxwell’s old dining room. Sleek wood and worn leather play off of the cool gray walls, and a collection of art inspired by music hangs behind the sofa.

February 24, 2016 at 4:11 pmWe have the Kivik too! We bought it on a whim (it was on sale the day we went in for a Karlstad) and I compromised a lot on the style, and the cover, at the time. (Ours is an older, corduroy-type material). While it’s not the MOST comfortable for binge-watching, and I dream of replacing it with a bigger, cushier sectional, I cannot believe how well it’s held up. We have a dog, 5 (FIVE!) cats, and a 6 yr old – I have taken those covers off probably a thousand times, and just thrown them in the delicate cycle. Not a single stain, tear, or wear spot. Still looks just as good as the day we bought it, nearly 5 years ago.
