Honor Roll

Honor Roll

My bike was ready. Then it turns out it was maybe a little broken (because a nut wasn’t tightened enough)? And now it’s ready again. I think. I’m heading over later today to pick it up and hopefully all is well. I can’t put a rack on the back of it, but I did get a removable black mesh basket with a handle (to take it in with you!) that should serve me well. I shall ride to the bookstore, hooray! It’s a little bit of fun to look forward to, because otherwise there are lots of chores and projects staring me in the face. Oof.

Honor Roll

  • New York, how lucky are you to have the new Color Factory experience popping up!? I’m seriously wishing I could come out for a day just to see it. (Tickets here!)

  • Arby’s! It’s kind of fantastic now?
I know the jokes. We all know the jokes. But for real those curly fries were always so tasty.

  • The collab between The House That Lars Built and Winter Water Factory is the cutest. Mushrooms and plants and bugs!

  • We still want to replace our wooden fence this year. I’ve gotten the estimates and thought we had chosen a company, but I can’t get them to call me back and schedule the work! At this point, I’m like, maybe we should do like the Brinsons and DIY it! (But then I remember that I would like to finish the other projects I’ve already started first and we have two dogs that would benefit from a better fence ASAP).

  • For when you need something more extra than a little letter board.

  • Enamel book pins!

Welcome to my world of getting quotes and no response or scheduling the work! What’s that about? I have so many projects that I would have loved to have done but the DIY is way beyond my skill set. I guess I’ve saved a lot of money that way….otherwise annoyed.

I’m so used to doing everything myself and being the only barrier to finishing in a timely manner (*ahem*). But contractors! We want to pay you! Come do some work! *crickets*

There is nothing more frustrating, I think, than having to chase a person to give them your money. I am going through the same.

DON’T do what the brinsons did with the DIY lattice.

the previous owners of my house did that, and the dude was a master carpenter who owned a successful furniture business so it was done well, but it looks like absolute crap after 10 years.
it’s bowed, both within the lattice panels, and the posts themselves, and the lattice is very brittle and prone to breaking. if a piece breaks, you’d have to replace the whole panel, which is a large undertaking, rather than just one piece (picket?) of a regular fence. oh, and the boards that frame the lattice just fall off sometimes. and the gates are so crooked they hardly open.

Eek. I suppose I wasn’t thinking of the maintenance. We have some lattice, but it’s somewhat sheltered (below porches, hiding the foundation). My plan was to do lattice just along the top 1′ of each fence panel, so hopefully that will hold up.

I don’t really get these companies that don’t call back, it’s like “don’t you want to make your money?”.
