Looks like I’m loving ruffles this month…

Style: December '08

I’m not normally a big fan of Steve Madden shoes, but I saw these Impereal T-Strap Ruffled Pumps in a shop window and was instantly smitten. The Knitted Ruffle Dress from Boden looks like the kind of comfy, warm dress that would be perfect all fall and winter (and would likely fit over my ever-expanding midsection). To counter all of the frilliness in the outfit so far, I think the Monogram Bowler Handbag would be an excellent choice. Simple tights would keep your legs warm, and bright red lipstick would liven things up a bit.

OK, now this is where I have to just gush over Cookoorikoo’s necklaces. I met Shana last year at Design*Sponge’s Biz Ladies event here in Chicago, and I’ve seen her in local shows a whole bunch since then. I already own two of her necklaces, and I just bought the partly sunny yo-yo necklace that’s shown above. BUT, Shana has similar styles available in her shop, and she also does custom orders (so you can get the same colors as mine if you want to).

I love how a lot of Steve Madden and Madden Girl shoes look, but I just can’t get over the uncomfortable factor. I wish I could!

Totally off subject of this post, but I have a question about buying furniture. when you are buying big pieces like couches, rugs, etc – do you recommend buying in a basic color such as brown, cream etc? Or making a statement with color on a staple piece?

    Thanks!

Grace, I think it’s nice to do a mix. I have a neutral couch, but my rug and chair are patterned and colorful. Lena Corwin has a mostly neutral house but her couch is amazing.

Again, off topic but I totally love your Madeline Weintraub zig-zag rug. Is there any way to snag one without making the trek to NYC? (I live in Texas….)

That is really cool…I can’t see the rest of her house but love her couch. I’m trying to decide between a dark chocolate smoky brown, a paprika, a cream color and a pear. I have a mid 1960’s ranch and want to stay in the feel of the house! Agony is trying to decide on a couch color! The brown seems to be the most versatile to updates and kid friendly (a must with two little ones) but the paprika and pear are more statement pieces!

Averill, you could probably call ABC Carpet and Home and place an order over the phone.

Grace, paprika and pear sound interesting! If you go with brown though, that’s what throw pillows are for. ;)

I love that BR bag…it’s on my Xmas wishlist, but I highly doubt my husband will spring for it! I’ve also put it into my “waiting to go on sale” folder… :)

I agree, I’m not a huge fan of Steve Madden shoes, but I adore the ruffled pump too. Of course, I’d probably never be able to wear those; I don’t think I’ve even owned a show with a heel that high.

I love all the style boards you do. I just don’t have the confidence to wear a yellow dress (or I think in one of them you had green tights). I’m the brown and black kind of girl, always buying “neutral”. But I do love the looks and always am so impressed with people that do actually wear color. I think the shoes are great but being a student and having to run from one class to another, I don’t remember the last time I wore heels… I’m afraid I’m going to have to retrain myself to walk again in a pair. :)

Ooo, thanks for posting about Cookoorikoo. I saw one of her yo-yo necklaces in a photo of yours and was really taken with it. I love her bracelets, too.

I really wish you would pick out an outfit for me to wear to Christmas parties! I am SO BAD at choosing “fancy” clothes. It’s so stressful! I don’t even know how to wear a dress!

I have been debating over whether to buy that yo-yo necklace! But how far does it come down when you’re wearing? Can we see a pic of you wearing the lovely yellow necklace? :)

That necklace is a work of art! I love it with the outfit you’ve created, and I can also see it looking smashing with a plain white tee and dark straight jeans.

And I know what you mean about Steve Madden shoes—they can be touch and go. But these beauties are to die for. Great ensemble!

I just have to tell you that I just finished reading all of your archives in your blog. I love getting a little window into people’s lives, and I too am into crafts! I hope your family is doing well and your house is looking amazing! I can’t believe the transformation you had made by the 6th month mark-unbelievable.

My feedback is that I really like reading your blog and the different directions you take it. I like the style boards you do, the home improvement projects you show, and hearing about your work.

Thanks for writing such a great blog and inviting people into your life!

Just wanted to say that I have a very large midsection (sadly fat not baby!) and the Boden dresses cover it with ease. I wasn’t brave enough to go for the yellow but have the grey and purple ad both are wonderful. As is your blog.

I’m trying to fit into my normal clothes for as long as possible… it’s not been too bad so far since I have so many dresses.

Rachel – Wow, all of the archives? :)

Rita – I’m wearing the necklace in this photo.

Despite my previous experiences with Steve Madden shoes being
uncomfortable…Macy’s was having a sale and I bought those pumps in red patent leather.

I made the mistake of wearing them out on a night where I went to to concerts (one sitting, one standing).

They hurt so badly that at the end of the night, my boyfriend practically had to carry me to the car!

    Hi Nicole,

Love this look – I agree I think we could hide our growing bellies with that dress.

I saw these and thought of you, had to share:
