Rethinking population density.

I loved Victoria’s post about the perception bloggers are presenting via social media.

How far is it to Mars? (Far.)

I’ve been spending way too much time looking at Chicago real estate that I can’t afford, but this house is a pretty one (even though it’s huge, and new — two things I’m not normally drawn to).

Rifle Paper Company went ahead and made the prettiest iPhone cases ever for all of us. Hooray!

Pretty garden tools automatically guarantee a pretty garden, right? I’m pretty sure that’s how that works.

A two-piece bathing suit for toddlers that I actually like. (I’m normally too prudish for them, you see.)

Hey, act fast if you want something at Kate Spade or Saturday. It’s all 25% off right now.

April 12, 2013 at 9:00 pmThat snow-melt system on that outrageously-priced home…is worth a million bucks in my book. :)
I spent the other night house-browsing our great city as well…but we are forever chained to the city proper.

April 13, 2013 at 10:29 amI don’t know how he did his math in the population density article, but my ecology professor told me that for every person to live the average American lifestyle takes approximately 24 earths, not 4.1, based on the number of acres per person to supply the resources that go into that lifestyle. We are destroying natural ecosystems that are responsible for providing clean air and water, and when those are gone, what will be left?

April 13, 2013 at 11:54 amNicole, I am increasingly inspired and creatively satisfied visiting your blog these days. I notice that you are being true to your own interests in what you choose to share – and the result is really fantastic content! I like that your blog shares some accessible commentary on design and trends – it makes for good causal web surfing. But, when I see links to obscure and delightful articles and follow you down the rabbit hole I am taken to a place where the intellectual designer/mother/woman in me flourishes. Thanks!

April 13, 2013 at 10:20 pmHi Nicole!
I have been reading your blog since (almost) day one and I just wanted to say that out of all the blogs I follow, yours is still the one that inspires me the most. I can’t even begin to count the number of incredible links, ideas, social commentary, etc. that I have learned and been inspired by thanks to your blog! I feel kind of bad for never commenting prior to now—I guess your Thom Yorke post just really made me realize how similar our styles/tastes are in so many ways. You have really stayed true to yourself throughout the entire social media transformation of the last few years and I truly admire that. It would be a pleasure to run in to you at an event someday, but until then-I will continue to enjoy reading!

April 13, 2013 at 10:58 pmI definitely agree with the NPR article. People need to realize that just because they want childrem, it may not be the best decision in the long run for all of us. Hopefully we haven’t passed the threshold quite yet.

April 14, 2013 at 9:48 amFunny when I was growing up I refused to wear a top to my bathing suit until I was 9 or 10, I felt boys had it so much better when swimming, I admit this was years ago at the beach in Africa where toplessness was much more accepted.

April 14, 2013 at 8:24 pmVictoria’s post rocks – I love honesty. I had kind of a crappy day today and that was the perfect post that I needed to read. Life is so good but it certainly comes with its not-so-good times and days that probably don’t get documented.

April 15, 2013 at 12:17 pmI’m a city (transportation) planner and am always pleased when I click a link that leads me to an interesting planning argument. You have perfect taste and write a wonderful and lovely your blog which I visit daily. However, I believe you missed your true calling: Nicole Balch, AICP. You even live in Chicago, one of this country’s most successful planning efforts and the American Planning Association headquarters!
