The Winter 2014 issue of Anthology is out, and I’m in their ‘Screen Play’ spread, talking about a movie that’s near and dear to me. When I told Brandon, he first guessed Grease, (a good guess), then got it right with The Rocky Horror Picture Show.
Brandon’s such a movie guy, and we have a lot of friends that are into films. I’ve seen plenty of ‘good’ (critically-acclaimed, universally acknowledged as such) movies, but my favorites? I like a bit of camp. Better yet, I like campy musicals.
I swear, I have seen movies that were made post-1982. Now, where has our copy of Little Shop of Horrors (1986!) gone to? I know what I’m streaming while I work today…

February 3, 2014 at 2:19 pmIf you like campy mixed with a little horror, you have to check out Psycho Beach Party. It’s definitely not safe for the kiddos, but it’s pretty funny!

February 3, 2014 at 2:23 pmI thought I was the only one in the world (besides my BFF from elementary school) who has seen Grease 2! It’s so deliciously campy!

February 3, 2014 at 2:29 pmHow fun is this?! (“Very!” To answer my own question.) If you like campy comedies, you might enjoy “Drop Dead Gorgeous.”

It cracks me up every time I watch it, without fail.

February 3, 2014 at 2:53 pmYay, new movie recommendations! Thanks, and feel free to keep ’em coming.
Phantom of the Paradise is another favorite. And Beyond the Valley of the Dolls.

February 3, 2014 at 3:09 pmHey! Did you notice the recommendation I left you last week? (https://makingitlovely.com/category/our-victorian-house)
Not sure if you’re a fan of much older movies… And I seem to recall you writing about scaring easily (http://bit.ly/LICc0P); but, this recommendation is more of a “romantic fantasy” than a “scary” film. (There’s no horror in it at all. Scout’s honor!)
I have an inkling that you’d enjoy it; but I wouldn’t be surprised if my intuition is way off. Just last week, I’d recommended “Chicago” to a musical-loving colleague of mine…CONVINCED that she’d love it. She ended up hating it, saying that the story basically glorified lying, cheating, and being a bad person. (Ouch.) So, consider this a disclaimer that I might be losing my touch, in sensing others’ movie-taste. lol.
Happy watching!

February 3, 2014 at 2:55 pmLove, love, love Rocky Horror — I’ve seen it probably 100 times! And actually met Tim Curry back in 1978, when he was still Frank-n-Furter foxy!

February 3, 2014 at 5:21 pmSorry about that! I accidentally hit publish on an early, incomplete draft of something that was meant for one of the sites I contribute to. I noticed and fixed it right away, but it still went out via the RSS feed.

February 3, 2014 at 6:49 pmHow funny! I read that issue of anthology cover to cover over the weekend, and somehow missed seeing your name! I was halfway through the piece written by daniel of “manhattan nest” before I realized what was going on… wow my blog lists and my magazine subs collide.

February 4, 2014 at 1:40 amCongrats for the spread. It’s hard to beat Rocky Horror!
I can’t resist musicals – the sets and costumes are so tempting, and I’m a sucker for jazz hands. I recommend adding The Young Girls of Rochefort to your watch-list. :-)

February 4, 2014 at 1:31 pmok, so us grease 2 girls need some sort of fan club-why do so many people think no one else has seen it? I actually saw it before grease, had a major crush on Michael Carrington, and thought johnny was the coolest-then, to see grease-those people are such DORKS! grease 2 is waaay cooler, man. c.o.o.l

February 12, 2014 at 9:20 pmI almost never post, but I just had to on this one. Nicole, do you really watch movies while you work? I ask because if you do, I’m so impressed! I work from home too, and I have a hard time focusing amidst all the distractions (like watching TV, reading blogs, Facebook, haha). I love hearing about other people’s work from home routines, especially bloggers! Would you consider writing a “day in the life” post about yours?

February 12, 2014 at 9:27 pmI don’t know about a day in the life post — I did one ages ago, and it’s probably just more of the same, slightly shuffled around. ;) I usually like it completely quiet when I work. Sometimes I like to have some background music or noise though, and if it’s a movie I’ve seen a million times, I don’t actually watch it. I did stop and watch the dentist song though, because I can’t get enough of that little kick and hop Steve Martin does. Also: lifelong crush on Rick Moranis. So maybe Little Shop of Horrors was a tad distracting…

February 12, 2014 at 9:37 pmI can’t stand when it’s completely quiet (I’m weird)–I need to have music on. I love having familiar movies on when I’m doing chores, cooking/baking, crafting, or some other domestic thing :)
I’ve never seen Little Shop of Horrors. Now I really want to. Sounds like a perfect snow day movie!
