It was a Valentine’s Day gift, which is funny because we never celebrate the holiday. I mentioned to Brandon that I had a little gift for him (it was a Darth Vader flash drive), and I guess he felt like he should reciprocate. I wasn’t expecting anything, and I was completely surprised when the mirror I wanted for my office arrived! (Brandon totally wins.)
My office is coming along so nicely. I just need my crazy rug so that I can pick a new wall color, and then I want to paint the trim too.

February 18, 2010 at 9:46 amSo cute and sweet. Wow, that mirror is SO perfect for this space!

February 18, 2010 at 9:58 amPaint other than pink? No!!!
Are you still thinking about that rug and lamp that you thought was granny-ish? What color are you thinking for paint?
Making it Lovely
February 18, 2010 at 1:41 pmYes (that’s the lamp above, already on my desk). I don’t know what color to paint yet though.

February 18, 2010 at 10:00 amBallard Designs seriously has some killer mirrors. I have at least two from them. Have you seen Wisteria’s mirrors lately? They are maybe not your style, because they are more ornate, but they are really divine too.

February 18, 2010 at 10:20 amthat is such a beautiful mirror. that whole corner is gorgeous. i don’t know if i’d ever get anything done, I would just keep looking around the whole time. ( ;

February 18, 2010 at 11:18 amI love it. I’m so jealous that you are getting the Steps rug – I love that thing but it clashes with my current chair upholstery, and not in a good clash-y way.

February 18, 2010 at 11:26 amThat looks like such an enjoyable space. Great job :)

February 18, 2010 at 11:27 amI adore your office. I want one that is clean and organized like this. I don’t have enough space to have everything put away like this (I live in a group house!) but I keep it as organized as possible. I want to have a home like yours someday.
Krissy
February 18, 2010 at 11:32 amI hope you don’t mind my asking, and I don’t mean to be rude or anything, but I’m curious as to why you hung your mirror from the picture mantle, and didn’t just hang it from behind? Then you wouldn’t have those black cords hanging – they seem like a bit of an eye sore.
Again, I really don’t mean this to be rude because I really and truly love your home – it’s so delightful! – I just think it would look a million times better if you lost the cords. :)

February 18, 2010 at 1:38 pmAlyssa (a couple of comments down) is right. I have plaster walls. Plus, knowing what picture rail is for, I find it looks a little funny when people have it and don’t use it.

February 18, 2010 at 11:49 amLooks perfect!

February 18, 2010 at 11:51 amI’m guessing she has plaster walls.

February 18, 2010 at 2:35 pmI love the Bombshell Hook Rug on your wists. I went to the site and signed up for their email and they sent me a “$5 off any order over $10” as a thank you. Thought you might like to know. :)

February 18, 2010 at 3:07 pmOh I love that you have a footstool under your desk. The mirror is adorable.

February 18, 2010 at 3:14 pmI have been loving your picture rail ever since I started following your blog, and never knew what it was until now. Is that something that you installed yourself or came with the home? It’s so charming and i’m not sure if it would work with our style home and the high ceilings, but I just love the look of all the pictures hanging.
Robin
February 18, 2010 at 3:27 pmI’m in love with that rug also. I just adore your taste in rugs. I have such a hard time choosing them myself. I wonder if you would consider doing a post devoted entirely to well priced rugs? I would love it. (I’m in the market for one for my 9-month old daughter’s nursery – slacker I know, but as I said – I have a hard time with choosing rugs!
p.s. I love your picture rail and the hangers you use. I think they look very high end and emphasize the era your home was built in. I covet them as a matter of fact!
Keep up the good work.
Robin

February 18, 2010 at 3:30 pmthat mirror looks amazing, so much better now that it’s in the room! what about picking out one of the colors in the rugs like the icy blue or olive green? then you could keep the trim white to tone it down.
Alyssa
February 18, 2010 at 3:32 pmI have plaster walls too. In a rental, with no picture rails. It really limits what you can put up without doing some serious damage. And since it’s a rental, I’m hesitant to paint because plaster absorbs so much it might take forever to paint back to off white. The trade-offs of loving vintage buildings. I just use your blog for my pink-paint-porn.

February 18, 2010 at 4:27 pmwhat a good hubby! and for what it’s worth, i like that crazy rug…it’s gonna look great in there.

February 18, 2010 at 5:25 pmI would love to see a close-up of the picture rail and hooks… how they are attached, and how they work, exactly… I had never seen that before, and always wrote it off as just a goofy vintage middle-of-the-wall-trim thing… I dig older construction and all the quirks it offers! I’m glad other comments clarified what it was, because that was my first question.
P.S. BEAUTIFUL mirror… go hubby!

February 19, 2010 at 12:42 amWell done Brandon! And good pick Nicole. It looks great there and it looks like it is hanging just high enough so that you aren’t staring at yourself as you work. Not that that would be a bad thing.
Is there any pink in the rug? It is hard to tell in the photo. Maybe you can get away with the existing wall colour.. unless you are craving a change that is.

February 19, 2010 at 10:06 amOh wow… this is AWESOME! You have beautiful taste when it comes to selecting pieces that are bold but not ridiculously over the top. I also have plaster walls but no picture rail – you’re soooo lucky – I am super envious, they add so much character to the historic homes.:o)

February 21, 2010 at 11:32 amLOVE the mirror! Put my desk together last night (did you have any issues? holes not aligned?) The under-the-desk cord project the was much harder than I thought, my back was tweaked after. Thanks for the inspiration!

March 31, 2010 at 10:18 amCan I ask about the color of the mirror? The website says white with distressed brown base. How does it really look in person? Is it a bright white or a more antique white? Love it.
