I’ll be twirling into the weekend like a big happy rainbow in my new Marimekko maxi dress. I shared it on my Instagram Stories a couple of days ago because when I told Brandon that he probably wasn’t going to like my latest find, he said “I’d love you in whatever loose linen sleeping bag you put on your body.” Jokes on him. It’s cotton.
Onward!

This look inside modern day MLM companies was fascinating. They’re not pyramid schemes, no, no, no! Of course not. But… are they much better?

There has been a lot of talk about how we might be over midcentury modernism. I shared that link on my Facebook page and reactions were pretty evenly split between “finally,” “never,” and “more for me!” Where do you fall? I’m enjoying the swing back toward Victorian, for obvious reasons, and there’s even a subset of renters in Chicago looking for “time capsule dwellings” (untouched, unremodeled apartments). Also? A little love for vintage kitchens!

Sarah Sherman Samuel’s Pink Agate Wallpaper is available! So very pretty.

I’ve never done Whole 30, but I do appreciate the snack ideas! Coming up with new things to eat is most definitely not my strong suit.

Freelancers: get the credit you deserve! I put on pants today, and I want everyone to know it! (They weren’t LuLaRoe though. Wouldn’t that have brought everything around full circle.)

August 18, 2017 at 11:37 pmSo I read through the vintage kitchen article on apartment therapy and read a related article and discovered (!!) that the person who came up with the kitchen work triangle was efficiency engineer Lillian Gilbreth. You know what else she did? She is the mom from “Cheaper by the Dozen.” The real one. My mind is blown and now I have something nerdy to talk about all weekend long. :).

August 20, 2017 at 9:44 pmThe old Cheaper by The Dozen book is pretty interesting to read although it has been years since I’ve done it. She always loved her husband, through 12 births and a fairly long marriage. I think that part alone is fascinating.

August 21, 2017 at 11:11 amI didn’t know that! I’ve never seen the movie or read the book, but I’m interested now.

August 21, 2017 at 5:43 pmand of course a big part of that story is that she was able to continue her work as an efficiency expert to work and support her (large) family after her husband died. I really liked the book when I was a kid because it’s written by one of the daughters and gives a great perspective into what it was like to come of age at the beginning of the 20th century. If you want to watch the movie make sure it’s the 1950 version not the contemporary one of the same name since the plot is completely unrelated to the Gilbreth family :)

August 19, 2017 at 2:00 amI love when you go into some crappy third floor walk up that’s endured years of student housing abuse, and then you glance at the ceiling and it’s tin tiles :)

August 20, 2017 at 8:14 pmMLM article was fascinating…. long but a really excellent read.
Making it Lovely
August 21, 2017 at 11:07 amI read it in the car while we were driving back from Wisconsin. I kept recapping every few paragraphs to Brandon, like “did you know…”

August 21, 2017 at 11:03 amI saw that dress on Brittany from The House that Lars Built and immediately loved it! Too far out of my price range, but I whole-heartedly approved!! :)
Making it Lovely
August 21, 2017 at 11:06 amYes, I saw her in it too! She’s always so cute. Anthro had all of their dresses on sale, and this was back in stock, so I snapped it up. Wearing it again today for the eclipse!

August 22, 2017 at 10:12 amAs soon as I saw that agate wallpaper a couple of days ago, I thought of your house! Which is kind of strange, but it would be perfect with those pinkish brownish colors.
