Onesies are so last year. New year, new dress (in several sizes of course). New camera tricks too; I’m finally shooting with my DSLR in manual mode. The photos from this session are grainier than I’d like, but I aim to improve.
(I’ll be taking a photo of Eleanor sitting in the Eames rocker and wearing her pin each month until she’s two years old.)

May 29, 2010 at 2:34 pmShe is so adorable!
Is that chair very comfortable? I’m going to be a first time mother in December, and I’m trying to find a good chair for the nursery. I want to find something that is comfortable enough for late-night nursing, but that doesn’t take up much space.
Making it Lovely
May 29, 2010 at 8:38 pmThe chair is great. I prefer something more squishy and cozy for late night feedings, but that’s a matter of preference.

May 29, 2010 at 2:37 pmAs in the previous 12 months – nothing but adorable. She’s growing up before our very eyes. Play with your ISO, that may solve the graininess issue. A higher ISO gives more grain.

May 29, 2010 at 2:44 pmAdorable. I have a thirteen month old too. More Eleanore posts please!

May 29, 2010 at 2:45 pmI love seeing the pictures of Eleanor each month. Why are you stopping at 2 years? You could continue to take her picture every year on her birthday in the chair. Please don’t stop.

May 29, 2010 at 8:39 pmYes, I’m planning to take yearly shots after the monthly project is over.

May 29, 2010 at 5:33 pmShe’s such a cutie pie!
I have almost the same camera. Learning manual mode can be tricky. The graininess you are experiencing is from the ISO being set at 1600. You could try ISO 200 or 400 and adjust the shutter speed, using a tripod if needed.

May 29, 2010 at 9:01 pmWhat ISO are you shooting at? The higher the ISO, the grainier the pictures are. Since you’re in front of a window in a room with good light you shouldn’t be higher than 300! (Just a friendly little tip from a photog. ;o))

May 29, 2010 at 10:57 pmLove these progression pics. Bravo to you for going manual!
Next time I would start playing at ISO 800 and something like 3.2 for aperture (that way you can get a faster shutter speed). 1600 is what caused a lot of your graininess in this one. It looks like you have wonderful natural light in your house so you wouldn’t need 1600 in the middle of the day. You might even be able to get great results from ISO 400. I wouldn’t do 200/300.
Also try going manual on your Exposure settings. It’s a lot to all get going in the same direction but once you get comfortable with choosing your ISO and aperture, the exposure will be easy and you’ll be amazed at your photos!

May 30, 2010 at 12:48 pmSo sweet! Congratulations on shooting manual!!! Of course, you will always have to use whatever ISO you need indoors to keep you shutter up above at least 1/125 to avoid blur with an active toddler, but try opening up your lens more(like using a smaller aperature–as wide open as possible…a great lens is a 50mm 1.4). If you open your aperature more you will be able to lower your ISO. If your gear is limiting you and you want to try something else–try running the image through a noise reduction software. I prefer Neat Image, but there is also “Noiseware”. I, personally, like grain :) but Neat Image would solve the issue in this particular image. Love your blog!

May 30, 2010 at 6:03 pmDang. I started reading this blog shortly before you announced you had a bun baking and now Eleanor is 13 months old! Time flies. I work with mostly children Eleanor’s age so I’m sure your hands are full. She is a cutie cute.

May 30, 2010 at 7:00 pmYou are the most together person I’ve ever seen! When do you sleep?! You mentioned you were going to stop the photos when Eleanor is 2. You might consider continuing the tradition with photos every year in that same chair. You will love having them one day when she is all grown up….and more importantly, Eleanor will love having them! My own baby girl turned 21 yesterday (May 29) and I don’t know where the years went!

June 1, 2010 at 8:04 amWhat a fantastic gift you are giving Eleanor – it will be fun for her to have when she is grown up (and for her children!). The scary thing is that will before you know it. BTW I love your blog.
