I love finding clothes for Eleanor, and now that we’ll be adding a boy to our family I’ll be shopping the other half of the kids’ stores too. People are telling me that it’s so much harder to find cute clothes for little boys, but I’m finding plenty of great choices out there. Sure, maybe the selection is limited compared to the bounty for girls, but it’s out there.
I just got a pair of denim leggings (“jeggings” I suppose, though that word is awful right?) for Eleanor and I really liked them. I thought they’d work equally well on a boy so I had a little fun putting together two outfits based around them.
I never get tired of striped shirts on kids, and aren’t those canvas sneakers the best? For girls, ballet flats are so sweet, and I like girly embellished t-shirts. They’re just as easy to throw on as the plain ones but they look ten times better.
Do you have little kiddos of your own to dress? I don’t know if I’ll do these style posts for kids very often, but I loved putting this one together!

October 14, 2010 at 8:30 amI love that corsage tee. I have a little boy (almost 3) & a little girl (20 months) so these posts would be a lot of fun for me too! I do agree there are cute options for boys out there but the selection is definitely more limited than the girls’ stuff.

October 14, 2010 at 8:33 amYay – I’m so glad that you’re doing boy’s fashion posts! I’m having a boy (March 1st!) and I’m not thrilled by what I see out there. I’ll definitely be following along to see what amazing outfits you come up with! :)

October 14, 2010 at 8:58 amI have a boy (4) and a girl (2). It is way easier to find cute stuff for her in all price points, where with my son, the lower price options have very little available.

October 14, 2010 at 9:04 amLOVE that you did a kids fashion post! I have a five year old girl and a four year old boy….so fun! Keep them comin’ :)

October 14, 2010 at 9:09 amWe’re obsessed with polka dots in my house!! My brother actually asked if my 14 month old daughter, Charlotte wore anything without polka dots!!!

October 14, 2010 at 9:50 amI LOVE dressing my boys. (And Ivy, too, of course!) Our favorites are Mini Boden and Misha Lulu mixed in with a lot of second hand staples/finds!

October 14, 2010 at 9:58 amOld Navy has been great for dressing my son while not going broke.
His waist size is close to 2T, but his height is more of an 18 month size. So finding a good fit is a challenge with pants. I bet the jeggings would fit pretty good, thanks for the idea! I like the kid style post, I hope you do more!

October 14, 2010 at 9:58 amI vote for more kid style and your baby girl’s clothes more.

October 14, 2010 at 9:58 amThis is great! I have 18mo twin boys, and while there is some super cute stuff out there, the selection is muuuuch smaller. Especially in the lower price points. We can’t afford to buy a lot of those extra cute special pieces times two! Anyway, kids style posts are a great idea.

October 14, 2010 at 10:04 amI’m not so sure about leggings on a boy. I think some things are for girls only.

October 14, 2010 at 10:19 amOkay, that embellished t is SO CUTE! I need to go shopping for my 20 month old daughter now….

October 14, 2010 at 10:28 amI LOVE dressing my boys! Love it! I don’t have a daughter so I don’t have to compare… but I think there are some great boy’s clothes out there.
Dressing kids is fun! You should include style posts for kids from time-to-time for sure! :)

October 14, 2010 at 10:31 amI hope you do more kids posting. I have a 12 month old girl and I love shopping for her. I wish I knew how to post outfits because I am the queen of shopping on a budget, especially for kids. They grow so fast.
As for little boys, I don’t have one yet but I found there is a much better selection at baby gap as oppose to target.

October 14, 2010 at 10:43 amFabulous post! LOVE it that you went with the jeggings for the boy outfit. I absolutely LIVE in my jeggings (what will I do if they ever go out of style!)

October 14, 2010 at 10:50 amAs a mom of a 20 month old boy I am also always trying to find cute boy outfits that are not just sports/camo/trucks. I love the Boden shirt but we would probably never pay that much for a shirt! I gravitate toward sale stuff at Target, Carters and Old Navy for affordable but cute boy choices. We occasionally find Janie and Jack, Boden, and surprisingly Lands End at the second-hand store too, which is where the majority of my son’s clothes come from: cute, affordable, and usually new-looking.

October 14, 2010 at 11:15 amI love the post on kids’ clothes and would love to see more.

October 14, 2010 at 11:38 amLOVE the posts on kids! I would LOVE if you did these more. Maternity too!

October 14, 2010 at 12:15 pmI adore stripes, especially striped t-shirts. I really like Tea Collection for kids.

October 14, 2010 at 12:45 pmSkinny baby boy jeans – love that baby hipster look!

October 14, 2010 at 1:00 pmWe have NEVER had a problem finding cute boy clothes! We’re having our second son any day now, and I couldn’t disagree more that boys are hard to shop for!

October 14, 2010 at 1:11 pmI don’t have any kids BUT I would love to see more of these! Kids clothes are sooo freakin’ adorable

October 14, 2010 at 1:30 pmI don’t have kids, but I have the most adorable niece in the whole world and I LOVE getting her clothes and putting together stylish little outfits for her! I think you should continue with the kids’ posts – both boys and girls!

October 14, 2010 at 1:41 pmI have an 18 month old son and 3 1/2 year old girl – and I love this post! Dressing them both is so much fun, and much easier than dressing myself. (though I would love that red shirt for myself!)
Jenna
October 14, 2010 at 1:42 pmThis is so fun! I have two little boys to dress and a little girl due any day now, so I really enjoyed this style post. I do think shopping for boys is a little harder, but you are right – there is good stuff out there, you just might have to look a little harder.

October 14, 2010 at 2:20 pmLOVE LOVE LOVE that I’m not the only mom who desires to put her sons (15months and 2weeks!) in Jeggings! Old Navy should send you some serious cash for putting the word out about their pants! :)

October 14, 2010 at 3:26 pmOur 8 month old has a TON of adorable clothing, mostly from the clearance rack at BabyGap and Old Navy. Even Babies ‘R Us has some great things, we just bought a cardigan and sweater vest on clearance. I refuse to dress my baby in “sports!” Oh, and jeans on a baby is soooooo cute!

October 14, 2010 at 5:03 pmHonestly, I like the boy clothes better than the girl clothes almost every time! I’ve had a ball dressing my 9 month old son. He smiles the brightest smile when he’s all dressed up, too!
There are great sweaters, patterned pants, and button down shirts for boys. You’re going to love it!

October 14, 2010 at 5:06 pmThat girls top is so cute – would be easy to make your own with a cheap top and just add a fabric flower or make your own. I use that idea to cover up stains too. I have two girls 2 and 8months and although they look adorable in skirts/dress, it just isn’t practical sometimes – hard for them to crawl in or keep up with all the boy cousins!

October 14, 2010 at 6:15 pmWithout realizing it, I bought my super skinny son a pair of girl’s skinny jeans a few months ago from a Carter’s outlet. They were basically a straight leg, so they looked adorable with a thick cuff and a faux hawk! Boy clothes are definitely cuter than they used to be, and you can never go wrong with great jeans, a graphic tee, and itty bitty trainers (Baby Pumas are adorable, as are the Vincent shoes).

October 14, 2010 at 7:52 pmOh my, love the ‘jeggings’! Expecting a girl in early February so wouldn’t mind at all if you did regular kid style posts! Eleanor has the best wardrobe and although I live in Canada I’d love to see some fashion inspiration!

October 14, 2010 at 8:04 pmAs the first of four girls (and no boys) I was a little blown away when the ultrasound indicated that my firstborn would be a boy. I went to the car, called my girl friend (who had two of her would-be four-boy clan) and she said, “Okay, here’s the deal–you’ll mourn the girl clothes. You will. And then you’ll get over it.” That was her advice.
She was very right. It took a few Easters to get past dresses, but I’m all better now, and wouldn’t trade shopping for my (now two) boys for any girls. In fact, I’d be terrified to shop for the girls. Shopping for boys is easy and cheap–everything matches everything else, and it all looks great. Love it.
Congrats on the new little man.

October 14, 2010 at 8:36 pmAs a mom to two girls, I shop for them more than myself and love every minute of it. Keep these posts coming!

October 14, 2010 at 11:05 pmI loooooove the kid style posts! I especially love looking at kid clothes because I sew most of the clothes that my daughter wears. I actually have recently made a dress that is very similar to the Tulle Corsage Tee. You can see it here…..

October 14, 2010 at 11:10 pmOn a fashion blog I read, they said “Leans” instead of “Jeggings” – maybe you’d like to use that term instead?
I love leans on little toddlers. So cute with a tiny bit of irony – a good combination.

October 15, 2010 at 4:33 amOoooh as a manager of a kids online shop this is very close to my heart. We have probably an 80/20 ratio of girls clothes to boys clothes which is a massive shame because little boys clothing is so sweet. But mums don’t spend money on the boys in the same way as they do the girls… Discrimination I think!!! No wonder so few men have good fasion sense! We have only ourselves to blame!!
JC
October 15, 2010 at 8:00 amYES, please! More kids ideas. I find the toddler years to be easy dressing. It’s the school aged years (6+) that are hard. Everything for girls is low rise, glittered, neon and LOUD. Everything for boys is related to the NFL or bears a jolly roger. It gets old. Boden however is tried and true. Thank goodness.
Erika
October 15, 2010 at 9:33 pmI love striped shirts on kiddies too. In fact, I have been doing month to month shots of my Little Guy and by accident he ended up in striped shirts for those picks. (The accident was that I had not thought through what he would be wearing each time I took his pic and the first couple just happened to be in striped shirts. Whoala! Stripes it is!) The pics have turned out pretty cute and it has been fun to find new striped shirts each month that sort of go with the season.

October 16, 2010 at 2:26 pmI have an 11-month-old boy and I do find it tough at times to find a good selection at a reasonable price. But I can usually find a decent selection at the usuals: Target, Old Navy, Baby Gap… I have never purchased any mini Boden, though I think their stuff is adorable!

October 17, 2010 at 8:20 pmAww, I don’t think it’s hard to dress a little boy. I think the onus would be on the shirt/shoes portions of the outfit – but there are plenty of adorable little sneakers to be found, so that’s not hard. Collared polos and cute little tee shirts look good on boys – ON or the kiddie GAP are good for the former, and Threadless kids does great kids tees that aren’t too cutesy (like this one: http://kids.threadless.com/product/2451/kids/kids_tee/Plaid_apus/size,) – and they go on sale all the time. I know my mother had a great time dressing my brother and I. :D

October 18, 2010 at 12:40 pmI have a two-year-old boy and a month-old girl. It does bother me a little that even stores like Baby Gap devote much more real estate to girls’ clothes than boys, and sometimes a season’s colour palette can be too blah for me (too much navy, forest green and burgundy). But, I’ve grown to love the simplicity and straightforwardness of boys’ clothes. Pants (or shorts) – with girls you are choosing between leggings, skirts, dresses, capris, etc. etc., not to mention all the accessories!
I know I’ll have fun dressing my daughter, but dressing my son in a striped sweater and corduroys is pretty great too.

October 21, 2010 at 12:33 pmI’m so excited you’re having a boy!
I get excited about boy fashion, too. I just did a post about stripes as well:
