Holidays My Life

Happy Halloween

Brandon and I carved our pumpkins with a new technique this year. We tried doing the whole halfway carving thing, with mixed results.

I like mine, even though it’s not as perfect as I had envisioned.

My Pumpkin

Brandon’s not as pleased with his. Originally he wanted to carve “Palin 2012” with drippy, bloody looking letters because that was the scariest thing he could think of. He squished all of the letters together though and made it too difficult to carve, so he instead went with a robot. Then the pumpkin kind of dried out and now the mouth looks a little mummy-ish. Oh well.

They do look nice all lit up on the porch.

Happy Halloween, everyone!

Oh how we love it when bloggers show their political fangs…I can understand having an opinion with your little Obama sidebar banner, but why try to make other people feel badly about their own opinions?

Oh yes, right about that one! That would be the scariest thing ever! Thanks for sharing:)

That’s hilarious. I just got done writing, in black marker,
“PALIN 2012” on our pumpkin. We live in the ‘burbs out west though so it’s pretty risky. Hope we don’t get vandalized tonight.

Sorry, Olivia. It wasn’t my intention to make anyone feel bad. Half of our family members (and half of the nation) are voting for McCain/Palin – we just disagree. Strongly.

We are living in SE Europe right now and there are no orange pumpkins here! At least, we haven’t seen anyone selling any. They have white ones, though, and these cool greenish ones with orange spots all over them. Our 3-y.o. picked one of the latter and we will carve it as soon as she returns from her Halloween party! It’s nice to have the comfort and insurance of an American holiday, even when you’re far from home…

It’s okay…I didn’t mean to get snippy. Although the country may be equally divided, it seems like the design blog-o-sphere leans heavily toward Obama. Or maybe it’s just that conservatives don’t feel as passionately about McCain as liberals feel about Obama…or at least I don’t.

I love the pumpkins-just the right amount of creepy. I do not think that there is anything wrong with stating your opinion about your political views. I also feel that like Olivia said the design blog-o-sphere does in fact lean heavily to the left, because most artistic people seem to be a little more open-minded than the rest of the country. Happy Halloween.

Laurel, we used kitchen knives and linoleum cutters.

Don’t ask me why but i still wish you had some greenery/bushes to the left of the stairway on your beautiful house………..i’m so sorry i really don’t mean to be critical, it’s just my silly opining…..you know how easy it is to have a quick opinion about other people’s houses!!!!
Ever considered painting out the rectangle that stands out on the porch wall??
Maybe it’s a window? But it becomes too much of a focal point !!!
I totally know it’s not the season to be saying this but oh well.

I don’t understand how someone can “feel bad” by you expressing your political stance………you weren’t on a soapbox, it is YOUR blog……
good for Olivia to stand up for her candidate just like i can stand up for Obama……..that’s what makes the world go ’round

Congrats to you, your husband and the teeny tiny one….it is such a great time of life…….having a baby and all!!!

Oh, I know I need some landscaping out there! We relocated the peonies that were there to the backyard, so now it’s pretty empty. Next spring I’ll figure something out. :)

Don’t worry, Nichole. I’m a landscape architect and I still have NO IDEA what to do in my own yard. Sometimes it’s much easier to design for others than yourself.

    ps- GOBAMA!! (ahem)

A.D.O.R.E your pumpkins! On a side-note, akin to the landscape, I was admiring your house, liking its shape and all, and a spontaneous thought occured to me. I like the dark brown accents, but the beige …. nope. it NEEDS to be pink. Pink loves brown! or maybe that would be too ghastly. I dunno. i thought it would be cute and match your dorr curtain :OP

PS I agree, it’s your blog (say what YOU like) and it didn’t come across as you trying to make anyone feel bad… at ALL.
