The clothes were great, but here’s what I really found inspiring in the latest J.Crew catalog…
Fuchsia lipstick. More specifically, Funny Face by Nars, which the catalog actually pointed out. I may have to add another lipstick to my favorites.
Next, I ran across the perfect shade of pink (with a lot of lilac in it). When I was a kid, my two favorite Crayola colors were thistle and orchid, and I think that color preference has stuck with me. I’m also liking the font here.
And then there was this five-year-old boy’s haircut from the crewcuts section. I think it would look pretty great on a lady. A lady like me, perhaps?

August 25, 2010 at 12:50 pmI’m not big on wearing lipstick… but I think the color is very nice for you.
I LOVE the haircut…
Isn’t it interesting how we get inspiration from the most random places?

August 25, 2010 at 1:02 pmDang, that j.crew has style! I’m loving the haircut and certainly think a “certain lady” could rock something like this :)

August 25, 2010 at 1:07 pmI agree – it’s the inspiration and styling that I’ve been taking from Jcrew more than the items themselves – I love the recent direction the company has taken with Jenna Lyons at the helm. I even had a dream that she was asking my advice for the next season, but then I woke up and it was time to fed my baby breakfast, :) ha!

August 25, 2010 at 3:42 pmThat’s much better than the dream I had last night… Al Gore doing a tame Chippendales type of routine, now available on video! Um, what?

August 25, 2010 at 1:16 pmthat haircut would look great on you. are you going to go for it?
Making it Lovely
August 27, 2010 at 8:57 pmI don’t know. I’m sort of growing my hair out. I’m thinking maybe the front could be like that though? But then I wonder if I’m not just inventing some new type of mullet with that idea.

August 25, 2010 at 1:26 pmI was thinking the same thing about that lipcolor. I think I’m going to try it this weekend. That cut would be cute on you. You should do it.

August 25, 2010 at 1:28 pmi’d never thought about it in that way, but i have that 5 year old boys’ haircut. i love it and get lots’o’compliments **tooting of own horn in progress** you should go for it for sure! esp. with baby #2 on the way. it’s so easy to manage.
Making it Lovely
August 25, 2010 at 3:42 pmEasy to manage maybe, but I’m afraid I’d have to go in for more regular haircuts. Sometimes I stretch them out to four (or more) months between appointments.
lisa
August 26, 2010 at 8:19 amthe key is to go really short. i was hesitant when i first chopped it, so i left the front longer. now i take it to like 1″ at the shortest points so i can go at least 10 weeks…i could let it go longer but i usually have an event that i feel like sprucing up for. four months won’t happen.

August 25, 2010 at 2:14 pmYou’re cracking me up with the inspiration from the boy’s haircut! And I do think it would look great on you. I wish such an easy style would work for me!

August 25, 2010 at 3:08 pmI have seen a couple other blogs that talked about that NARS lip color. It is going to be a popular one this season. I LOVE J.Crew…I just wrote about my favorite pants from there!

August 25, 2010 at 4:07 pmooo that hair cut with that lipstick (gotta girl it up a little)… a winning combo!
kim.
August 25, 2010 at 5:26 pmI had that same lipstick when I was a kid…although instead of a ‘neutral-hued look’ it was probably paired with blue eyeshadow & bright pink blush ;)

August 25, 2010 at 6:21 pmI am not an everyday lipstick girl but for special occasions I will don a dramatic red lip, Jungle Red by Nars. If it’s a fun, casual event my favorite bright pink is #207 by Makeup Forever. I am obsessed with makeup as you can see here!

August 25, 2010 at 7:08 pmThistle and Orchid were both my favorites, too. I was so sad that they were discontinued! I recently found an old box of crayons in my parents’ basement, and saved those two for nostalgia’s sake.
Making it Lovely
August 27, 2010 at 8:59 pmNo!! Are they both discontinued? I thought just one of them was.

August 26, 2010 at 8:47 amI’m currently rocking a slighty shorter version and LOVE LOVE LOVE it. 2 seconds to style it and I don’t need a blow dryer…saves on electricity :)

Loved it. So easy to shag my fingers through with a little water wax and run out. Between the red hair and short cut, I was in the salon all the time, though.

August 27, 2010 at 9:00 pmYeah, I’ve had short hair before too. I remember it needed really frequent cuts to look good.

August 26, 2010 at 3:38 pmI think that haircut would be grrrrreat.

August 21, 2013 at 9:52 pmI just read this post for the first time. My favorite colors are burnt sienna and goldenrod. It was surprising to remember that. Nothing in my house reflects those two colors at all. Hmm, time to start redecorating!
