I’ve been making over four spaces in my home over the course of four weeks, using just $100 from Target and GE reveal® LED light bulbs. I’ve also had a total of $4000 in Target gift cards and plenty of GE reveal® lighting to give away so that each week, 10 readers win everything they need for their own #100reveal makeovers! The rules and information are at the bottom of this post, so be sure to enter.
This week, I’m working on my work space. I had some difficulty while pregnant with my third baby but I still had to work at my computer, so to limit my going up and down stairs, Brandon helped set up my desk in our bedroom. It was supposed to be a temporary solution, but Calvin is five months old already and I’m still working from the same spot! It was a bit of surprise, how much I would love working here.
Since I see my desk all the time, I figured it was about time I spruced it up a bit. The task lighting needed to be addressed, and I knew I could pick up a handful of things from Target with my $100 makeover budget that would help my cluttered desktop and drawer.
You can see how I put everything to use and the difference that GE reveal® bulbs made in this week’s #100reveal video.
The drawer needed a lot of help. I know some people are OK with an ‘out of sight, out of mind’ mess, but that kind of thing drives me crazy! I’m far from being neat all the time, but I do like my drawers, cabinets, and closets to be tidy. I picked up a jewelry organizer that fit perfectly inside the desk and separated everything into compartments.
Just about everything that was in the drawer was put back, the only exception being the printer ink refills which went in one of the nesting boxes I picked up at Target.
The room is flooded with beautiful light during the day, but it was less lovely when the sun went down. We rely on lamps in the bedroom rather than overhead lighting, but the bulbs cast a yellow tint that turned our blue/gray walls green. Switching them to GE reveal® LED bulbs kept the colors true and the room instantly looked better.
I can get pretty hungry throughout the day since I’m nursing, so I’ve been keeping chocolate covered almonds at my desk (yum!). The container isn’t so nice to look at though, so I tucked it inside another of the nesting boxes I picked up. I keep water nearby too, and the occasional cup of coffee.
My desk wasn’t terrible before, but it’s much better now with a little organization and a lighting upgrade.

March 9, 2015 at 10:58 amI am such a nut about lighting too! When that yellow tint is cast on my white and grey walls and white cabinets it drives me CRAZY! it makes everything look dingy…ugh! The struggle is real! Some new bulbs and some pretties for my desk are would be awesome! I just started a Master’s program which means I’ll be spending a lot of time at my desk for the next 18 months so anything to make it a better experience is awesome!

March 9, 2015 at 3:14 pmI was just given a nice vintage claw foot wooden table that I am planning to set up as my work-space. It needs some TLC so as soon as the weather warms it will be spruced up and put to use. New lighting is definitely on the agenda too. #100reveal looks like the way to go!

March 9, 2015 at 3:45 pmI’ve been working on creating my home ‘office’ for a few months now. I started with a soft light gray paint on the walls, a dark gray carpet… and stopped there. I’m using a old sofa table as my desk, mismatched file cabinets and a corner display shelf for storage, and a bedside lamp for task lighting. It’s getting there, but some creative storage containers and better lighting through #100reveal would certainly make it a more welcoming space for working at home!

March 9, 2015 at 5:34 pmMy office space is a small room between the living room and kitchen, so there’s a lot of traffic. Unfortunately, this means that sometimes things get placed on top of my desk and never make it back to its proper home. I think that some serious organization is going to have to take place in my new #100reveal office!

March 10, 2015 at 8:48 amOur office space really needs a make over. This space will be used mostly by my husband. He is a realtor and works from home. For the past year he has been working from a tiny space at the tall counter in the kitchen. The office has been a bedroom/project room for our 19 year old who is now at college. The biggest problem with the room is that there are no windows. After seeing this post, I fully intend on using the reveal bulbs they will make a big difference. The gift card wild be awesome to have for this project. #100reveal

March 13, 2015 at 1:37 pmI have a small desk and a bulletin board set up in my apartment. I do my grad school homework in there, plus some sewing on a machine, and I want to start filming book reviews for a blog. I enjoy the space, but the organization is embarrassing since the desk is very simple, and the lighting is terrible (one tiny bulb for the whole room? please.) so a #100reveal makeover would be a Godsend.

March 13, 2015 at 9:09 pmsuch a good reminder for me as an interior design to think about the quality of the light coming out of the fixture as much as i think about the fixture itself…amazing how much the lightbulb affects how the space looks. great post!

April 21, 2016 at 6:57 amI would love to update my working space in my office. Right now, everything has to get folded up and put back in drawers/bookshelf each day, since our office doubles as a guest room, but I’d love to set up a beautiful space that can stay set up even when we have guests over.
