'W' for Wallpaper Dining Room

Wallpaper Contenders

Ack. Shopping for wallpaper is not going as well as I had hoped.

A lot of the great wallpaper designs seem to be coming from England these days. That’s fine, but buying it can be a bit tricky. And then there are fabulous designs that are available to the trade-only. I had considered trying to fake it as an interior designer so that I could request samples and possibly buy certain patterns. How hard can it be? I do have a design business, it’s just not an interior design business… but I decided that would be a bad idea! So I’m trying to narrow the choices down to the wallpapers I can buy retail.

I did find a fabulous website though: walnut wallpaper! Most of the papers below can be purchased through them (numbers 4-12, specifically). Plus I have a book on the way (The Cutting Edge of Wallpaper as recommended by Holly), so I’m hoping to get a few ideas when that arrives.

Hmmm… I still have no idea which one (if any) I’ll choose. I do want to be sure I love it though. I’d hate to choose a pattern and then hate it two years from now! And when (if?) the day comes to move again and sell the house, I’d probably have to take it all down and paint the walls beige (yawn). That would be sad, but I’m really getting ahead of myself there – we haven’t even moved in!

It would certainly be easier to just paint the dining room and get my pattern fix from curtains, but I still love the idea of wallpaper. I’m not giving up quite yet…

Ha! Exactly what I experienced. Did you try to order Cole & Son Wallpapers? I did, it´s a nightmare!

Otherwise, great choice! I´ve just decided to buy nr. 8… but the “marine” version. It´s lovely!

You might have done this already, but do order samples! The colors look so different in real.. for example nr. 10 (also one of my favourites) is not really what I expected.

    Good luck!

I’m wallpaper small parts of our house for a little pizzaz, and I love it. Walnut has some great stuff, and don’t be afraid of eBay! Best of luck!

Nicole. Don’t be afraid of paper. Wallpaper is so relevant right now, and therefore only makes sense it would define our spaces. It is beautiful and bold, and in my opinion weeds out those who truly believe in the power of design and those who want to play is safe and “pretty”. We, of course, are partial to hand-printed papers as they inherently maintain an artistic integrity that transcends any trend. While luxury papers can be costly, they reflect quality and prevent them from becoming ubiquitous. good luck.

none of the pictures in your post are showing up for me. I’ve tried two different computers. I’m not getting a red X, but they are squished into a tiny line.

I recently ordered some Cole and Son wallpaper from Sandersons Interiors UK (http://www.sandersonfabrics.co.uk/) — 3 rolls came to $340 or so, shipping included. It arrived about 10 days after I ordered it via FedEx. All in all very pleasant and easy and much less expensive than I expected.

I’m going through the same thing right now and I’m considering almost every wallpaper that is up there, but I sourced them from different websites. I don’t want to have to paint the walls beige if we move but life is short and the girl wants wallpaper!

I am a designer and I can honestly say, “Do NOT feel one bit guilty about using your resale certificate/sales tax number to buy wallpaper.” In fact, you are a designer. I think 1, 2, 4 and 7 are the best. Wallpaper is cool and so are you.
    p.s. I don’t like the “Zig-zag” paper from today’s post- something’s off. Plus it won’t “grow up”.
